JOB SUMMARY

The medical assistant/scribe assists the providers in administering treatment to patients and performs some administrative duties in the orthopedic clinic. The MA / Scribe performs documentation in the Electronic Health Records (EHR) Database, gathers information for the patient's visit, and partners with the provider to deliver efficient patient care.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Seeking an experienced Medical Assistant/Scribe for a busy orthopedic group. Must have 2 years of full-time clinical experience as a Medical Assistant. Must be knowledgeable in CPT Evaluation & Management (E&M) Codes as well as ICD-10 codes. Full time position with excellent benefits. See below for more details:

  • Carries out physician directives.
  • Rooms patients and documents patient care information using Phoenix EMR system.
  • Must have excellent documentation with all patient care interactions.
  • Obtains and documents health history, vital signs, and health risk factors and assesses condition.
  • Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, monitors and documents treatment progress and patient responses.
  • Prepares and assembles medical record documentation/charts for providers.
  • Enters the patient room with the physician during patient visit to capture and transcribe medical record documentation utilizing electronic medical record applications.
  • Ensures medical record compliance by self-documentation attestation.
  • Updates patient history, physical exam, and other pertinent health information in the patient
  • Prepares and sends all documentation to provider for review and approval via authentication of detailed data entry and facility-specific procedures.
  • Monitors the duration of basic lab results and screening procedures.
  • Brings patient care issues to physician's attention.
  • Documents patient care information using Practice Management System and Phoenix EMR system.
  • Must have experience obtaining prior authorizations and knowledge of processes.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding a PLUS.
  • Collect test results and lab tests results and make them available for the physician to review.
  • Triages and schedules patient exams as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to be cross-trained
  • Must have excellent grammar and spelling
  • Typing minimum 45 WPM
  • Willingness to learn and show initiative at all times
  • Strong patient service and interpersonal skills as we are high on customer service
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent work ethics and ability to treat documents with confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also take initiatives when the need arises.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Have experience with medical terminologies, diagnostic procedures
  • Strong communication and customer service skills A MUST
  • Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • May work in our satellite clinic in Tulare as needed a few times a month

EDUCATION

  • Certificate of successful completion of Medical Assistant Program.
  • High school graduate or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum two years full-time clinical experience in a healthcare facility as a medical assistant required. Bilingual a plus and orthopedic experience a big plus (but not required)
