Medical Coding Technician abstracts clinical information from client data feeds and imaged medical records, charts and documents and assign appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes for the purpose of billing claims to liable third parties as part of the carrier to carrier process. This person will also review and help formulate responses to claim denials received from insurance carriers. The medical coding technician will also work with Data Mining and Government Services teams to create code lists to be used in our payment integrity processes for all divisions.


Hours:
Day shift, 40-hour work weeks. During training, 8am - 5pm. Flexible schedule options available between 7am - 7pm after six months of employment.


Setting: Professional office environment (with remote option).

Responsibilities

  • Research ICD 10 codes to improve data mining queries for all three divisions.
  • Refines the understanding of diagnostic codes for clinical trial audits, Medicaid/Medicare covered services for Medicaid COB/pharmacy audits.
  • Supports Subrogation and Worker’s Compensation mining by assisting to group codes demonstrating cumulative injuries.
  • Views clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes for billing, reporting, research and regulatory compliance.
  • Verifies the accuracy of incoming clinical information and note if any information is missing or potentially incorrect.


Qualifications

  • Experience in health insurance billing, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or AHIMA requires 1-3 years of related experience preferred. Knowledge of the ICD-10, and CPT- 4 universal coding systems.
  • Knowledge of coding and clinic operating policies.
  • Very strong attention to detail, deductive reasoning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including on the phone, are required.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all aspects of job performance.
  • Ability to work well independently or in a team environment.
  • Customer service experience highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel is required.
