Position Overview
As an iSpecimen employee working in our partner site’s laboratory, Medical Lab Assistants are responsible for organizing the entirety of the specimen collection process at key accounts, including, but not limited to assisting in the feasibility assessment process for opportunities, patient consent, specimen collection, data entry, specimen processing and storage, and specimen packaging and shipment. This new role is critical to the success of key accounts and the growth of the company.

This role will perform laboratory assistant responsibilities onsite at our supply partner site, a hospital and research institute in Stamford, Connecticut.
Responsibilities of Medical Lab Assistant
- Conducts feasibility assessments on behalf of the site
- To conduct all collection activities in accordance with the protocol, IRB regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Participates in the determination of eligible candidates for collection participation, assuring patients fulfill eligibility requirements
- Assesses and evaluates potential patients pertinent medical and historical information to ensure only appropriate subjects are selected and approached for collection
- Participates in the informed consent process, ensuring that human subjects, their families, and other health care providers clearly understand what is expected of and from them pertaining to their specimen collection
- Coordinates specimen collection, ensuring the specimen is being collected per the collection criteria indicated by the researcher
- Strives to ensure collections are completed in a timely manner through implementing effective screening and recruitment strategies and completing required documentation
- Records data from source documentation and/or patient interaction onto case report forms (either paper or electronic) with awareness and attention to the requirements for accuracy, completeness and timeliness
- Assures research information is collected and stored in a manner that is compliant with regulations/policies and Good Clinical Practice guidelines
- Performs processing on the specimen per the processing requirements and ensures specimens are stored appropriately
- Performs proper packaging and labeling procedures
- Prepares specimens for shipment to iSpecimen or directly to the researcher in accordance with shipping guidelines and regulations as well as maintaining appropriate documentation
- Serves as an advocate for human subjects by establishing and maintaining communication with investigators, research staff, and patients
- Adopts iSpecimen marketplace technology for daily processes and champion's partner marketplace engagement as needed
- Participates in site visits from iSpecimen, regulatory authorities and others to review research, source documentation, critical documents and procedures
- Attends meetings and collaborates with both supervisor of clinical research coordinators, other clinical research coordinators, and other colleagues at iSpecimen
- Additional duties may as assigned
Qualifications of Medical Lab Assistant
- College degree or enrolled in a degree program in health-related field required
- Past experience in clinical research preferred
- Past experience in life sciences, biotech, or medical research preferred
- Experience as lab assistant or research assistant preferred
- Working knowledge of medical and research terminology
- Ability to self-direct and exercise appropriate judgment
- Ability to read pathology reports preferred
- Thrives working independently
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to read, speak and write English fluently
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required
