Candidates who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC), neurodiverse, a woman, a person with a disability, a veteran, and/or a part of the LGBTQAI+ community are welcome and encouraged to apply.

The NHMLAC is seeking a Membership Ambassador for our Membership department. The Membership Ambassador works closely with the Manager, Membership to actively cultivate and acquire Members through approaching and greeting visitors in an effort to sell Memberships, solicit donations, and advise on benefits and programming at the Natural History Museum and the LA Brea Tar Pits & Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ambassadors stay actively informed of all aspects of the Membership program and NHMLAC marketing initiatives and events, and they use this knowledge to proactively welcome all Museum guests as potential Members/donors. In these interactions, the goal is to encourage these guests to become Museum Members through highlighting Member benefits, special promotions and upcoming events, and catering the value of these elements in the conversations with their groups.
  • Ambassadors are consistently present on the frontline during high-attendance days, exhibit openings, and special events (daytime and nightly), at both the Natural History Museum and the La Brea Tar Pits, as needed.
  • During these times, Ambassadors share the responsibility of checking in current Members, troubleshooting their issues, pitching Memberships as ticket buyers and ticket holders check in, and roaming the exhibit spaces to facilitate organic engagement opportunities with ticket buyers and Members, in order to both acquire and cultivate these groups, respectively.
  • While cultivating current Members, the Ambassador acts to secure renewals and promote upgrade opportunities to help maintain/increase renewal and retention rates.
  • Ambassadors are always apprised of onsite revenue goals for Membership and Annual Fund and works collaboratively with the Membership team and Guest Relations to meet these goals.

This position has the following requirements:

    • A track record of strong Membership conversions of general admission guests during their service at NHMLAC or other cultural institutions. Applicants with similar sales experience from other industries are also welcome and highly encouraged to apply.
    • In pursuit of Advancement and Membership sales goals, Ambassadors are required to meet personal sales quotas, in addition to contributing to departmental daily, weekly, and monthly team goals.
    • Prior customer service experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
    • Experience or formal training in conflict resolution and/or customer service is highly desirable.
    • Strong experience with admissions ticketing systems and/or Customer Relations Management (CRM) data entry systems is a plus.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings, holidays and/or weekends at both the Natural History Museum and the La Brea Tar Pits.
    • Must be able to adjust work schedule to include early morning and/or evening work hours when needed.

The NHMLAC is especially interested in candidates whose background and experience have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to engagement and inclusion with culturally diverse audiences in museums and in sciences.

The NHMLAC is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment to working with a diverse community. This is a part-time regular, non-exempt position.

A cover letter, current resume, and list of 3-4 references are required for all applicants. Review of applications begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.
