Fellowship Summary/Description:

KBTX Media is looking for a rising senior level or higher broadcast meteorology student to serve as a meteorology fellow during or immediately following their final full collegiate term. The fellowship will offer an opportunity to gain broadcast experience, get acquainted with the company and its operation, and familiarize fellows with newsroom operations and journalistic responsibilities with a goal of achieving placement in another Gray Television newsroom at the conclusion of the fellowship year.

Weekly, fellows will be expected to appear on-air Saturday evenings, turn one weather-focused news story for broadcast or digital, and contribute in significant volume to KBTX’s digital and social properties, including a series of STEM-focused videos focused on science education outside the classroom.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • The purpose behind the KBTX Meteorologist Fellowship Program is to offer students pursuing a degree in meteorology or a related field with a focus on broadcasting, or recent graduates of similar qualifications, the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in television. Students who participate will gain a wide variety of practical experience and will receive an hourly wage. The company strives to offer this opportunity to a diverse group of fellows.
  • Fellows who participate in the program will work a mutually agreeable flex schedule set by the company, while attending school. While the fellowship is not intended to function as an academic credit, the company will work with the fellow and cooperate with their school to meet criteria required to receive academic credit for participation if necessary. The company cannot guarantee that the fellow’s involvement in the KBTX Meteorologist Fellowship Program will result in credit.
  • Fellows must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s automobile liability insurance coverage and maintain good standing with their sponsoring university or college.
