Position Summary
Manages the business function to acquire physical natural gas supplies and related services in the wholesale natural gas market to meet the highly-variable requirements of CPS Energy’s natural gas distribution customers and gas-fired power plants in a manner that provides reliable service and supports low-cost rates. Responsible for developing natural gas acquisition strategies and acquiring the required services in accordance with the strategies. including negotiating long-term agreements for firm transportation and storage services. Provide fuel market analysis and forecasts to support forecasting, budgeting and management information.

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Monitors gas market prices at appropriate market hubs and maintains current knowledge of gas infrastructure and supply developments and activities.
- Develops and maintains a gas supply strategy to guide the acquisition of natural gas supplies and related services. Develops strategies to optimize gas storage and transportation assets within operational constraints.
- Develops and maintains portfolio of gas suppliers to provide a reliable source of potential gas supplies. Maintains ethical and effective working relationships to support CPS Energy’s highly variable service needs.
- Identifies and evaluates natural gas assets and services available to meet CPS Energy’s requirement for long-term gas supply and related services. Negotiates and acquires the required long-term services in accordance with the gas supply strategy.
- Manages the process to develop a monthly baseload gas acquisition plan, acquires and analyzes offers and selects successful suppliers.
- Manages the process to forecast current day and next day gas requirements, develops a daily gas acquisition plan and acquires required gas supplies.
- Manages the process to coordinate daily gas supply arrangements with EMO controllers, gas suppliers and gas pipelines to ensure available gas supplies are utilized in a manner that results in the lowest delivered cost. Provides gas supply instructions and gas dispatch price to EMO controllers and adjusts as needed to changing gas requirements.
- Manages the process to capture gas transaction data and calculate settlement information. Provides gas cost estimates and actual gas cost reports to Accounting. Provides gas transaction information to support invoice processing and other reporting.
- Manages the process to nominate and schedule daily gas transactions with gas suppliers and gas pipelines to ensure accurate and timely delivery of gas supplies.
- Manages the process to perform gas contract administration and transaction confirmation activities, maintains department files and databases and other administrative duties.
- Monitor and analyze fuel market information from consultants and other sources and utilize expertise to develop market outlooks applicable to CPS Energy.
- Develop and maintain price forecasts specific to CPS Energy to support forecasting and budgeting activities of ESMO, Planning and Rates, etc. Ensure fuel forecast information is provided in a timely and error-free manner and work with stakeholders (ESMO-CAO, Planning, etc.) to ensure fuel price information is properly modeled and that results provide a reasonable forecast of fuel consumption.
- Keep senior management up-to-date on current fuel market conditions and market outlooks.
- Manage and oversee the implementation of appropriate process controls and identification of process control deficiencies.
- Identify, implement, and oversee performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
