Summary:Under the general supervision of the Director Diagnostic Imaging and in cooperation with the Medical Director of the division the Manager is responsible for managing the clinical and operational activities of the section. Exercises critical thinking skills toward decision making which effectively addresses personnel management use of resources quality of services and fiscal management of the Vascular Interventional Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Sections of diagnostic imaging. Plans directs and coordinates the work of assigned staff who participate in providing diagnostic testing procedures. Is responsible to provide a high quality education program for incumbent staff. Supports designated student training program(s) for the department by assuring the training program meet compliance standards policies and procedures outlined by various approving agencies.
Responsibilities:
Provides input in the planning and development of goals for the department. Actively participates in developing and supporting policies and procedures for the department. Advises and assists as needed on overall department policy development.
Interviews and makes decisions regarding new hires in a manner that supports guidelines established by RIH Human Resources and the Diagnostic Imaging Director. Works with newly hired personnel to train orient and assign work to fit the new employees needs. Evaluates new personnel during the
probationary period and determines the individuals skill levels and potential for permanent employment.
Researches information required to prepare departmental budgets. Works with the department Director as needed to finalize capital and operating budgets. Develops annual operating budget for the Section. Determines and recommends expenditure priorities relative to anticipated demand for services to Department Director.
Evaluates the day-to-day operational dynamics of the Section with respect to efficiency of staff and quality of services. Uses resources and makes operational changes as necessary to optimize resources measured against demands for timely high quality services. Recognizes operational and staffing issues early in their development and takes timely appropriate corrective action. Establishes appropriate priorities to resolve problems in the section. Updates and advises the Department Director on how problem situations may be addressed.
Evaluates the performance of assigned staff. Sets performance standards for the Section in conjunction with evolving department philosophies and expectations. Initiates effective employee counseling while supporting basic HR policies and procedures.
Writes work schedules for assigned staff in a timely manner that supports evolving department and Lifespan philosophies.
Ensures the proper calibration maintenance and repair of all equipment in the Section. Works with vendors and the appropriate hospital department and personnel to secure records and documentation regarding equipment maintenance and calibration.
Maintains regular contact with hospital departments and personnel in order to gather and exchange information regarding the efficiency and quality of operations. Evaluates the need to adjust services and operations to meet new expectations and resolve operating difficulties.
Provides on-going education for technical staff through in-service training seminars etc.
Conducts monthly Section staff meetings.
Works with Clinical Instructors and Program Directors as needed to provide a suitable clinical experience for student learning.
Keeps current with new procedures imaging protocols equipment methods and practices. Evaluates and explores the application of new procedures for clinical use with the Medical Director while maintaining a cost effective environment.
Actively and effectively participates in Department management meetings. Acts as an advisor and makes recommendations regarding quality of service management of personnel use of resources and other related current topics.
Provides technical guidance and assistance to staff as needed.
Implements procedures that effectively support As Low As Reasonably Allowable (ALARA) radiation protection standards.
Oversees the proper inventory supply and supply acquisition procedures of the Section.
Assures proper compliance with outside regulatory agencies and maintains necessary records for review by surveyors.
Performs all duties of a Technologist as needed.
Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Completion of a formal accredited training program in Nuclear Medicine Technology is required. Knowledge of Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging procedures is preferred. Current and valid license to practice in the State of Rhode Island is required.
Registered by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality patient care with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Analytical skills and the ability to calculate and prepare radio-pharmaceutical isotopes according to standard procedure required by the test given with the ability to operate all current equipment.
Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills to plan and direct Section operations and to effectively provide input on future goals and objectives in the department. The ability to support and interpret policies appropriately.
Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interface effectively with patients physicians patients family and other hospital employees.
EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years of supervisory experience and the ability to demonstrate sufficient skills and knowledge to support the scope of responsibilities outlined above.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Exposed to radioactive materials and contact with patients who have various diseases. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.
Movement of imaging equipment as prescribed by vendors and lifting/positioning patients while exercising reasonable rules of body mechanics.
Range: $95000 - $150000 / year
