The National Security Innovation Network (NSIN) seeks to fill the senior-level, DO-1101-04 Midwest Regional Director. The Midwest Regional Director is responsible for regional engagement with Department of Defense, academic, and startup entities located in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kentucky, Iowa, and Missouri.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for developing opportunities for partnership with regional universities and venture communities to support the execution of NSIN programming.
  • Responsible for developing and executing an engagement strategy for NSIN programming within their assigned region.
  • Coordinates the activities of Regional Engagement Principals (REPs) within their assigned region, including the delivery of NSIN programs and activities at those universities and colleges by the REP.
  • Coordinates with all REPs within their assigned region and establishes, manages and oversees resource allocations for each REPs within their assigned region.
This is a Modified Term Appointment not to exceed (NTE) 2 years, can be extended up 5 years and with approval can be extended for an additional year. If selected, may be eligible for conversion to a career appointment at a later date.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a special senstive security clearance
  • Position may be subject to random drug testing
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov
  • Total salary varies depending on location of position
  • The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY).
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DO-03/GS-14 or equivalent grade in the Federal pay system. Specialized experience is experience in developing opportunities for partnership with regional universities and venture communities and developing and executing engagement strategies for their assigned region.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with dual-use technology and national security policy communities.
  • Preferred candidates living in he following areas: Louisville, Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, Columbus, Detriot, Minneapolis.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Broad knowledge of emerging national security needs and associated Science and Technology programs.
  • Broad knowledge of academic research and commercial research and development relevant to emerging DOD capability needs.
  • Recent experience in technology projects involving inter-agency, inter-departmental, and international partners.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills, including oral and written skills.
  • Foresight, maturity, and the ability to negotiate amicable solutions to complex problems.
