As a progressive financial institution, we are seeking a dynamic individual to fulfill the role of Mortgage Loan Underwriter for our Emerald Administrative Office in Boise or Mountain Home Administrative Office.
The primary purpose of the Mortgage Loan Underwriter is to determine credit risk and assess credit approval or denial of mortgage loans, based on Credit Union, agency and government guidelines and regulations. Responsible for negotiating, recommending, and declining mortgage and home equity applications within established guidelines, to be secured by new or existing real estate; reviewing credit information; negotiating terms and conditions of approval; documenting and advising all parties of decision and rationale, documenting any risk mitigating factors and exceptions; presenting loan recommendations for approval; communicating with real estate brokers, and when necessary, appraisers and solicitors; following up on outstanding conditions/documents and ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities Include:

  • Analyze and verify loan documents to determine financial risks of an applicants credit file, and property to the credit union, and/or assigned investors. Determine loan documentation meets Credit Union, FNMA and government regulations and guidelines. This includes, but not limited to, calculating, evaluating, and documenting the review of income, assets, credit, the property and any other documentation as required by federal guidelines for loan approval. Ensures compliance of loan file not only to guideline standards but federal regulations and compliance.
  • Decisions loan as required by compliance and federal regulations, ensures any Red Flag scenarios have been address and loan docs have been reviewed for fraud.
  • Records loan decisions as specified per federal regulations, specifying investor and Credit Union guidelines and basis for decision as required per compliance for reporting to HMDA, NCUA and Federal Regulatory agencies. Reporting loan denials as per regulations within regulatory time frames and send denial notice.

Experience: Minimum three years of similar or related experience.

Education: *(1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills: *Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills: *Must have excellent communication skills. Proficient with office equipment, personal computer, and Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements: Very light physical effort. Typical of most office jobs. Work in comfortable positions.
