Job Summary:
As the leader of the accounting team, a controller is in charge of closely monitoring a company’s financial health. They typically are tasked with the implementation of appropriate financial controls in order to ensure compliance with accepted accounting processes and legal requirements. They are also responsible for budgeting, financial data analysis, record-keeping, and financial reporting to senior financial management.

Essential Basic Requirement:
  • Should possess knowledge of all aspects of accounting principles generally accepted in the United States
  • Solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, work ethic, character, and executive communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product
  • Ability to meet and establish deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team player.
  • Experience with property management software (Entrata or Yardi preferred)
Experience:
Ten + years of experience, including three years of supervisory responsibility
Education:
College accounting degree and public accounting experience (CPA preferred)

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances;
  • initiating corrective actions.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
  • Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meeting.
  • Understands team dynamics and works well within a team structure.
  • Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments in a proactive and constructive manner.
  • Manage the work and development of staff members
  • Review intercompany billings to parent company, including the follow up of payments
  • Work with legal department on all new loans and participate in due diligence of acquisitions including review of closing statement prorations
  • Coordinate setup of RUBS billings with outside providers
  • Maintain and update GL accounts, property codes, property lists, and banking information in property management software
  • Manage an Insurance Captive including oversight of premiums billed and claims processed, work with insurance broker, management company and external auditors and actuaries
  • Handle all lender requests for information and reporting
  • Knowledge of estate planning and entity structures preferred
  • Update Real Estate Owned (REO) schedules for loan, financial and Fair Market Value information
