Senior level network engineer responsible for architecting and maintaining the University’s WAN, LAN, and Wireless networks and security devices (firewalls and IDS/IPS).
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree with 7+ years of experience in a related field.

Equivalent combination of relevant education, training and/or experience will be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
Associate’s degree with 10+ years of experience in a related field.
Equivalent combination of relevant education, training and/or experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with regional and national education and research network providers such as LEARN and Intenet2
  • Experience working with state or system WAN providers
  • Ability to grow the network into a leading example of a very high research network at the national level
  • Juniper Certified (JNCIA-Junos or better)
  • At least 4 years of Juniper (JunOS) experience including Tier 3 senior level support.
  • Extensive experience in the following areas – enterprise networking equipment, firewalls, load balancers, gateways, data and voice convergence, video services, and wireless technologies.
  • 10 years network engineering and design experience
  • Extensive technical knowledge and experience of managing and maintaining large-scale, highly available, Internet facing networks
  • Wide-ranging experience troubleshooting multi-tier Internet applications platforms, particularly for web applications and streaming
  • Deep understanding of network protocols and their applications and characteristic behaviors like IPv4/6, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, IPSEC, STP, QOS and VRRP
  • Experience implementing pragmatic network security and audit.
  • Good understanding of network configuration and troubleshooting on a range of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience working with application and network layer cryptography and virtualization
  • DevOps experience (Python, Ansible, Puppet)
  • Software Defined Networking (SDN)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate as a senior network engineer and Team Lead with responsibilities for developing and maintaining a large enterprise network to support both academic as well as advanced research activities. Directly engaged in the implementation and maintenance of University systems and the design, development and implementation of systems and interfaces; provide hands-on assistance in the implementation of systems and troubleshooting; ensure user needs are met by acting as a user liaison; may develop and/or modify software to enhance usability of the system; may develop, implement and utilize reporting systems, policies and procedures. Excellent project management, written and oral communications skills desired. Ability to work collaboratively.

REMOTE WORK FOR FUTURE AVAILABILITY – After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
