Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $30.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Division Women and Children Developmental Services Agency (CDSA) The primary functions of this position are to provide occupational therapy evaluations and treatment, to conduct developmental evaluations of birth to 3-year-old children to determine eligibility for the Infant-Toddler Program, and to assess child and family needs for early intervention supports and services, including evaluation for appropriate adaptive equipment. This position will be based in Blue Ridge Children’s Developmental Services Agency (CDSA), serving Watauga, Avery, Mitchell, Yancey, Ashe, Alleghany, and Wilkes counties. All evaluations and services are provided as a member of a multidisciplinary team at the Blue Ridge Children’s Developmental Services Agency (CDSA).

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques, and methods of occupational therapy as applicable to patients with psycho-social dysfunctions and sensory modulation dysfunction. · Working knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology, and skeletal biomechanics, whichever applicable area of work.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and conduct training and in-service education for CDSA staff and private contract providers regarding fine motor development, sensory issues, oral motor development and intervention strategies
  • Ability to prepare and evaluate reports, including medical, social and departmental records.
  • Ability to evaluate patient response and progress and to present evaluative reports in case staffing's and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, clients’ families, medical personnel, other CDSA staff members, other service providers and community partners in a sensitive and respectful manner.
Management Preferences
  • Strong knowledge of sensory processing disorders
  • Knowledge of autism criteria
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment/assistive technology
  • Ability to assess oral motor skills and the function of the oral mechanism in terms of feeding
Physical Requirements
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of North Carolina.
