On-Site Lead / Technical Director (TD)
Job description
Are you knowledgeable in lighting, audio, and video in event production? Are you great with the details and find that people always come to you for solutions? You may be a great fit as a technical director. This position requires a large knowledge base and comes with a lot of responsibility, but those who can communicate effectively and demonstrate leadership will thrive.
Our TDs are fundamentally responsible for the entire execution of the event. They are professional and client-facing, often collaborating with the client directly before and throughout the event. In addition to understanding the technical side of things, a TD is responsible for;
- Going over pull-sheets before an event and making sure the right equipment is reserved based on the client needs
- Maintaining client deliverables for each event, and asking the right questions to give our team the details they need on-site e.g. (Floorplan, Timeline, Run of Show, Digital Assets)
- Managing our team members, dividing tasks effectively, and keeping everyone on task
- Communicating and collaborating with staff, clients, planners, and venue coordinators
- Doing walk-thrus with clients before events start (1hr.) to make sure all needs are met
- Managing the time of our team effectively so that load-in is completed within 5 hours or less and load-out is completed within 5 hours or less.
- Translating what the client wants into actionable tasks
- Solving the problems that can arise throughout a complicated event
- Reducing obstacles that lead to delays for the rest of the team
- Creating an efficient, fun, and safe work environment for everyone
- Delivering the “polish” that make our events stand out from the rest (removing trash, making sure lighting is aimed/focused, sound is dialed in, cables are clean, gear is accounted for and not left behind, extra gear and dry storage is clean and organized)
- Follow Last Wave SOPs to deliver a consistent event experience for Clients
- Adapt on the fly to on site conditions. Improvise where necessary for success.
- Ensure all lighting gear is properly dressed, shielded and cables are gaffed in a client facing fashion per LWP Standards.
- Provide feedback on processes that can be improved, make recommendations for purchasing, and report issues to management
- Show up on time, clean, and presentable. Our dresscode is black pants, black shoes, and our Last Wave team shirt. No gang-related or potentially offensive prints on outerwear, hats, etc.
