The Operational Excellence Leader -- USA will be responsible for defining, maintaining, and tracking the Drilling Services Full Potential continuous improvement program across the USA region. This role will also help provide training for operational excellence tools and concepts within the USA to ensure the frontline process best practices and structural improvement initiatives are well defined and tracked per division manager. Lastly, the Operational Excellence Leader – USA will be responsible for process improvement of key Drilling Services processes, productivity data collection and reporting, and creating / improving project management capability. The Operational Excellence Leader - USA will report directly to the Global Operational Excellence Manager with a dotted line to the USA Regional Director.
Position Responsibilities:
Supports the definition, yearly refresh, and implementation of structured continuous improvement activities across the Drilling Services business.
Partners with the Regional Director to ensure that structured continuous improvement initiatives are resourced and are delivering value.
Travels periodically to offices and project sites in the region to spend time with division managers, supervisors, and other team members to support operational excellence activities.
Manages 2-3 high value process improvement projects across the USA in addition to the above responsibilities to improve USA region earnings / efficiency.
Maintains process conformance audit of the company’s Hard Work Cycle frontline and meeting process.
Works to standardize production reporting systems in the USA region ensuring central capture of production data and rapid reporting to the field.
Works to standardize key USA region project management processes and to define and build internal project management capability.
Key skill requirements:
Strong problem-solving skills
Deep knowledge of business improvement philosophies and their respective tools – e.g., lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints
Business process reengineering experience
Project management experience; understanding with ability to apply project management fundamentals
Strong communication, presentation, relationship building and strategic planning skills
Strong time management, goal setting, and task prioritization abilities
Proficiency in reporting project progress through dashboard presentations, project metrics, trend analysis, and executive reporting
Working experience in Project Management Office organization structure
Highly competent computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word (MS Office)
Business Intelligence and project management software experience - an advantage
Position qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering or geosciences, business process improvement, consulting and/or project management
A minimum of 5+ years of experience in business improvement, consulting, relevant industry (including drilling, mining, or other extractive sectors)
MBA or advanced degree – a plus
Formal lean / Six Sigma training / certification – an advantage
Formal project management training – an advantage (e.g., PMP, Prince, or equivalent)
