Mission:
Will support our corporate and intellectual property legal functions, Franchise Compliance and to assist the Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources with basic legal and business affairs.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist Director of Legal Affairs with the company’s internal legal function.
- Assist with IP meetings with CEO and Patent attorney.
- Support Patent Attorney with preparation of U.S. trademarks, copyright applications, maintenance filings and related matters.
- Assist with coordinating agreement workflow through manual and/or electronic processes.
- Provide assistance to Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources on all compliance matters.
- Assisting with the management of all legal documents and agreements.
- Ensures all franchise documents are properly processed and uploaded into the location folder in Google drive.
- Continually improve agreements workflow processes to identify efficiencies and facilitate timely execution of agreements.
- Assist outside legal counsel and Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources with all appointed legal matters.
- Assist outside legal counsel and Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources with updating the Franchise Disclosure Document annually and amend if needed.
- Assist outside legal counsel with completion of registrations and filings for the Franchise Disclosure Document.
- Draft, prepare and send default notices as franchisees and Area Developers for any default, non-compliance issue(s) – Typical order of letter/notifications:
- Courtesy Notice
- Notice to Cure
- Default Notice
- Cease & Desist
- Send all extensions to franchisees’ regarding approved extended development schedule on the behalf of the Director of Location Development.
- Assist Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources with the DMA Transfer Process and the Subsequent License Process.
- Assist with preparing and drafting amendments and/or addendums to the Franchise Agreement as requested by Franchise Sales Recruiter.
- Communicate to Franchise Sales on all state approvals, and requested changes needed by each state, upon filing the FDD.
- Ensure Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rules, regulations and requirements are followed and abided by.
- Assist International Franchise Sales Recruiter with the preparation and execution of International Master Franchise Agreements with prospects.
- Maintain a records of all background checks from Reliable Background Screening Company:
- Assist Franchise Sales Recruiters to ensure background is being sent in Module 5.
- Confirm with the recruiter that candidate(s) complete background check form 10 days prior to orientation.
- Once notified by the recruiter of the final reviewed background check report, pull the report and file all confidential information for 2 years per Reliable Source Background Screening.
- Assignment Audit (Monthly/Annual):
- Assist Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources by maintaining the assignment audit spreadsheet.
- Update FIM and location folder in Google Drive.
- Assignment Audit (Monthly/Annual):
- Assist Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources with the DMA Transfer Process and the Subsequent License Process.
Other Duties and Responsibilities as assigned by Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources:
- Assist Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources by enforcing company policies and practices.
- Assist Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources by keeping company handbook update with local, state, and federal laws.
- Amended as needed.
- Stay current on recent federal, state and case law changes and monitor law updates for changes that may affect the company such as the following:

- Equal Opportunity including EEOC
- Affirmative Action and Workplace Diversity
- Harassment and Discrimination including ADA
- Employee Terminations including FMLA
- Severance
- State Workers Compensation Laws
- Assist the Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources by preparing demand notices when Franchisee(s) are no longer in good standing with the accounting department.
Accountability:
- Attends all department and corporate meetings as assigned by Director.
- Documents and maintains detailed notes on all legal matters.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to create, compose and edit written materials.
- Ability to draft legal documents.
- Time management and organizational skills. Moderate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft office (includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Google online tools, as well as basic internet skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.
- Some related experience preferred.
Continuing Education & Training Responsibilities:
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, webinars and professional affiliations to keep update to date in relation to the position.
Work Schedule:
- Monday – Friday: 8:30 – 5:00 PM CST
- Some projects and events may require longer hours. There will be times that will require to come in early and stay late during the work.
- Additional company events may require attendance, such as the Company’s annual convention.
Compensation:
Base Salary, Commission and Bonus Opportunity: $50,000-$60,000
