JOBProvide academic instruction up to college 100 level in the areas of instruction that include the following: reading, English, mathematics, social studies, science, English as a Second Language, alternate high school diploma option, general educational development (GED) high school equivalency test, preparation for Work Keys test, Academic Bridge and Fast Track classes for college level Math 098 and English 096, and Work Force Career Pathways and Soft Skills training. This position is not eligible for tenure.Work Hours: Up to 19 hours per weekSalary: $18.39 - $21.63 per hour
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide competent classroom instruction in the area of English as a Second Language, specifically reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English, as well as Civics Education.Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to departmental, state, and federal criteria.Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records to the Data Entry Coordinator - including attendance, contact hours, and progress reports.Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration/instruction, when requested.Participate in scheduled in-service activities.Provide academic and career advice to students, and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.Be punctual in reporting for work.Assist in the processing of online inquiries for ESL prospective students.Assist in emailing prospective ESL students and setting-up the test roster each month.Collect and organize paperwork prior to new student testing.Become familiar with the institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and the Alabama Adult Education Procedure Manual.Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 9 semester hours of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages/ESL methods classes. A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in English as a Second Language (ESL).KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent oral and written communication skills.Documented evidence in the proficiency of use current educational technologies in the classroom including internet, e-mail, and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.).Ability to follow instructions and prepare accurate paperwork.Must have strong math, English, and reading skillAbility to conduct individual and small group instruction.Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues.Ability to maintain confidential information.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Ability to work effectively with diverse students, other employees, and the public.Commitment to all students, including those of diverse ages, cultures, genders and ethnic backgrounds.Understanding of the broad range of students’ abilities and the ability to accommodate varied learning styles.Successful problem solving skills.Conscientious- care about how work is done and desire to do a good job.Initiative- respond to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work.A focus on being friendly and patient in responding to students.Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that knowledge.Willingness to maintain flexibility in order to meet student needs.A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand.Confidence in decision-making and communication skills.
