The Department of History and Philosophy of Science at Indiana University is one of the oldest of its kind in the world—founded in 1960 . Its mission is the study of science and medicine from historical and philosophical perspectives.

The department offers a number of advanced degrees, including several Ph.D. and M.A. options, giving students various ways to develop their expertise in the field.

Job Summary


Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinates administrative activities in the Department Office.
  • May include administrative duties such as mail management, inventory of office supplies, organization of office procedures.
  • Manages announcement board.
  • Assists faculty with copy and scan requests.
  • Scans documents, assists with colloquium guests’, travel arrangements and reservations.
  • Arranges transportation for guest speakers, schedules hospitality including ordering food and event planning for various colloquium and graduate student events.
  • Manages department email and calendar to include semester classes.
  • Emails announcements and calls for papers.
  • Orders supplies and submits IT requests.
  • Assists with out-of-pocket reimbursements.
  • Assists with supplier registration through BuyIU; advertises courses; creates and circulates flyers.
  • Files, requests supplies, and other office services.
  • Oversees sorting and routing of incoming mail, answers correspondence and prepares outgoing mail.
  • Monitors the use of office supplies and equipment; reorders items as required.
  • Compiles, copies, sorts, and files records of office activities.
  • May perform other duties related to maintaining an internal website and/or working with social media.

Qualifications


EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years of relevant experience

Working Conditions / Demands


This role requires the ability to communicate effectively and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information


This is a 10-month appointment (32 weeks) through the Fall and Spring semesters, with Summer off.
