DOVES of Gateway, An Equal Opportunity Employer, has immediate openings for part-time Victim Advocates. The position will provide direct services to victims of domestic violence at their 24/7 emergency safe shelter that serves Bath, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, and Rowan Counties. Our main goal is to provide safe shelter for those in need and help them transition back into society.

Part-Time (Weekends/Overnights/Holidays)

Duties

• Performs admission paperwork and reviews shelter guidelines with new residents.
• Provides direct services to shelter residents, including facilitation of group meetings and individual counseling, case plans, and safety plans.
• Answers shelter phone lines.
• Answers Crisis Hotline.
• Assures that resident records are in order, correctly documented and maintained.
• Advocates for residents with other entities to ensure residents’ rights are protected.
• Makes referrals to resource providers.
• Provides transportation for residents. Picks up and documents donations.
• Maintains upkeep on appliances and shelter property. Makes appropriate referrals for shelter needs.
• Assists victims in completing emergency protective order petitions when courthouse is closed and/or Court Advocate is out of shelter.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred but not required. Individuals found proficient to perform duties with high school diploma or previous experience with victims will be considered.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to use good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and compassion.
• Good interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written skills.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Must be willing to submit to background check and drug screening.
• Must have a Kentucky driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Must be certified in first aid every three years and blood-borne pathogens yearly.
• Will need to complete required Continuing Education Hours, (CEU).
• Must be willing to work flexible hours.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 per hour
