  • JOB SUMMARY
      The Patient Billing Specialist I-CBO, under the direction of the Manager of the Central Billing Office, is responsible for complete, accurate and timely processing of all designated claims, reviewing and responding to daily correspondence in a timely manner, answering incoming telephone calls and providing information as requested or properly authorized. This position works collaboratively with St. Lukes Hospital and Clinic management and staff.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
      Education: High School graduate or equivalency.
      Experience: N/A
      Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
      Education: Successful completion of a vocational or technical school program in medical office administration and/or medical billing.
      Experience: One (1) year experience in medical billing office setting.
      Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Professional Coder or Certified Professional Coding Specialist.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
      Knowledge of health insurance, CPT codes, ICD-10 codes, insurance billing, basic communication skills, computerized office applications, customer relations principles and telephone answering. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to do straight copy typing and perform accurate computer keyboard entry. Ability to establish and maintain empathic, respectful and positive customer relations behaviors and to effectively communicate with staff and customers both in telephone and in person. Ability to work well with people. Ability to write legibly, see, hear, read, and speak English.
      READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
      WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
      SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
      MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
      REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
