Patient Care Assistant - Definitive Observation 2 West (Nights)
Job description
Scripps Health Administrative Services supports our five hospitals and 19 outpatient facilities, which treat half a million patients annually through 2,600 affiliated physicians.
This is a benefit-eligible, full time night shift position located at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas in the Definitive Observation Unit (DOU) working 12 hour night shifts (6:30pm - 7:00am) on varied days of the week including weekends and holidays.
The Patient Care Assistant provides excellent service to patients as a key member of the clinical care team. Assists patients with personal needs and activities of daily living, collects data, and ensures the patient has a safe, organized environment. Assists with patient care within the scope permitted and under the direction of a clinician. Supports the unit with a variety of patient logistic, clerical, equipment/supply, and charge reconciliation duties.
The ideal candidate is someone who is team oriented and thrives in a collaborative work environment. This department is fast paced with higher acuity stepdown and telemetry patients. You will need to be able to communicate effectively and be able to critically think on the spot if there are vital signs that are abnormal. You will encounter frequent communication with nurses on the floor as you will be working with 3-4 nurses at a time, servicing up to 9 patients during a 12-hour shift. This team focuses on the overall patient experience and are unique in having 36 private beds on the unit.
Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
- One year of recent experience working under the license of a licensed healthcare provider OR current enrollment or completion of Nursing Assistant training from a recognized school OR current enrollment in an RN program with completion of the second semester, including nursing fundamentals
- Must be able to speak, read and follow instruction in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a service aptitude
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care provider
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
- CNA certification
- Multiple patient skills
- One year acute care experience
