Job description
- Oversee and administer the district-wide employee payroll process to ensure timely and accurate payments and records
- Alphabetize timesheets and payroll vouchers; enter all pay and absence data into payroll systems. Print and file payroll reports
- Verify calculations and dates on timesheets and personnel absence reports. Proof payroll for errors in entry and correct errors
- Maintain employee profile information, updating tax & direct deposit information
- Ensure employee garnishments are processed and executed according to court directives and ensure timely notification and payment to creditors
- Maintain employee sick leave and vacation usage, and time off and accrual records
- Reconcile TRA & PERA contributions
- Submit payroll deductions to the appropriate agency
- Prepare reports and required forms for FICA, state, and federal taxes, and other monthly/quarterly/annual reports as required.
- Must be a self-motivated, collaborative, team player but also have the ability to work independently.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate complex items.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
- Strong customer service skills-able to communicate in a positive, professional and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
- Portray a positive image of the district.
- Must be able to work under numerous deadlines and in stressful situations.
- Complete knowledge of payroll processing, including, but not limited to, processing leave, verifying pay computations, prorating pay, verifying and balancing payroll, etc.
- Knowledge of the IRS and State requirements with regard to tax deposits and wage reporting.
- Knowledge of state and federal requirements regarding child support, levies, and garnishments.
- Must be able to handle agitated employees with respect and tact.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, data entry and 10-key proficiency; ability to calculate percentages, ratios, etc.
- Strong analytical & problem solving skills.
- Strong aptitude for accounting & reconciling.
- Willing and able to accept new responsibilities and adaptable to change.
- Employment law & benefit regulations; OSHA, FMLA, Data privacy knowledge desired.
- Successful, current payroll experience preferred; school district payroll experience is preferred, but not required.
- Two year post-secondary training in accounting/payroll is preferred.
