Pension Coordinator Level I (Denver, CO)
Summary
Calculates retirement benefit estimates, processes applications, communicates with members, reports to Board of Trustees, balances monthly ledger, and processes pension checks. Performs customer service functions; full time. This is a union position.
Pension Coordinator Responsibilities
- Sets up files for new applications
- Data entry of new application information
- Determines eligibility for and calculates monthly benefits of members
- Communicates with members through writing and phone calls
- Prepares meeting reports for the Board of Trustees
- Processes pension checks, including the stuffing of envelopes, posting, and printing manual checks
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job
PENSION COORDINATOR LEVELS
Level I - No pension experience necessary, but must possess analytical, intermediate math, customer service, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be organized and detailed oriented. Must possess a positive attitude. Must be able to respond quickly to new instructions, situations, and procedures. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must meet minimum service standards as set by the Company.
Level II - Must be proficient in Level I skills with two (2) years pension experience, general ERISA and other federal regulation knowledge, knowledge of BeneSys systems, programs, reports, and intermediate knowledge of plan documents. Must be an independent thinker and worker. Must be able to handle multiple plans. Must comprehend, initiate, and complete the valuation process for defined contribution plans, and year-end process for defined benefit plans. Must display an effective level of confidence when communicating with plan professionals and others. Must be able to resolve problems.
Level III - Must be proficient in Levels I and II skills with three (3) plus years of extensive pension experience. Must have a thorough understanding of West Coast Plans. Must possess advanced decision-making skills, extensive ERISA and federal knowledge and history, advanced knowledge of plan documents and ability to interpret. Must be able to train staff. Must be able to analyze new plans for conversion. Must assist with special projects.
Unit Leader - Must be proficient in Levels I, II, and III skills. Must display strong leadership skills. Must effectively plan and prioritize the productivity of the staff. Must assist in the conversion of new plans. Must be able to troubleshoot issues. Assist Supervisor and Manager with special projects. Must be able to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with Plan Professionals.
Pension Coordinator Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED and some college and/or job related experience.
- Excellent customer service skills are a must.
- Ability to read documents and communicate professionally and clearly.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Must be able to understand and apply knowledge of decimals, fractions, and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.
Physical Demands – Sustained periods of sitting, standing and keyboarding. Occasional lifting and carrying of boxes, typically “banker-box” size. Must be able to operate basic office equipment such as a scanner, adding machine, postage meter and copier.
Work Environment – This position is based in a typical office environment.
Work Schedule
Full time, Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

Pay
This is a union position. Pay rates are determined by the collective bargaining agreement and may be dependent on education, experience, and other business factors. The current pay rate for this position is $25.75 per hour.
