Summary of Position
BCCS believes that Perinatal Peer Specialist play a crucial role in assisting clients with navigating the behavioral health/DFS system. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will provide services to pregnant, post-partum, and parenting (PPPP) women and men. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will work closely with the Primary Counselor to assist parents in having healthy deliveries and successful parenting. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will provide transportation to OB/GYN appointment and follow up to verify compliance. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will assist the clients in gaining entitlements and accessing resources within the community. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will provide guidance and assist clients with overcoming barriers and challenges in their recovery journey to achieve the ultimate goal of abstinence so that their babies can be born free of illicit substances. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will assist clients in obtaining resources such as food, vouchers, housing, linkage to employment services, childcare, WIC, Food Stamps, TANF, Child Support and social services. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will facilitate psycho-education groups using evidence-based practices, provide crisis intervention, perform home visits, birth control education, outreach, transportation to appointments and connect individuals to community resource services, verifying valid release of information documents exist, and complying with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 laws. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will educate and empower individuals by assisting them with developing a strong and stable recovery support system. The Perinatal Peer Specialist will assist individuals with self-care and self-awareness, encouragement and support, teaching coping skills and teaching the positive benefits of long-term recovery. Perinatal Peer Specialist is responsible for providing quality, sufficient, and appropriate services and for maintaining high professional standards.

Job-Specific Tasks

  • Linkage to prenatal care and ensuring connection to appropriate medical providers such as, but not limited to, PCP and OBGYN.
  • Linkage to MOUD/SUD Counseling or Treatment
  • Linkages to on and off-site treatment services, including SUD/MOUD, mental health, and co-occurring disorders counseling.
  • Monitoring clients’ on-going medical needs and evaluating clients’ participation in and progress of their care plans to address quickly changing needs and/or preferences in a timely manner to maximize successful outcomes.
  • Providing education and access to resources for prenatal and postnatal nutrition for mothers and babies, parenting and life skills, domestic violence, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and relapse prevention
  • Access to HIV/AIDS and HCV testing on-site
  • Referral to affordable housing service, as needed.
  • Referral to educational advancement opportunities, as needed (ex: GED or HS Diploma)
  • Assistance with navigating the appropriate government-based entitlement benefits systems
  • Linkage to childcare services and assistance with applications for enrollment
  • Peer Counseling
  • Assistance with connection to employment/vocational Services
  • Assistance with transportation
  • Home Visits (will include prison and hospital visits)

Qualifications

  • REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED
  • PREFERRED: Associates or Bachelor's Degree
  • REQUIRED: 6-12 months of experience in the behavioral health (substance use and mental health) field
  • PREFERRED: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or CPRS eligible

Schedule
Monday-Friday 5am-1pm
