We are currently seeking a qualified Personal Care Aide. Personal Care Aides are unlicensed, non-professional workers.
The Personal Care Aide is a member of the service team working under the guidance and supervisor. He/she is expected to continue developing his/her skills and abilities in the function he/she performs.
The following list is not exclusive but is indicative of the types of procedures in which a Personal Care Aide may participate. Each resident care plan will outline the exact procedures a Personal Care Aide is expected to carry out for the individual.
Responsibilities
- Provides personal care, including helping to bathe (bed, chair, tub, shower), to comb hair/shampoo, with denture and mouth/care, to make bed, to dress, with walking, to transfer patient from bed to chair, with nail filing/cleaning unless diabetic or contradicted by nurse, and with feeding/recording intake and output as needed
- Provides special care such as accompanying patients to medical care appointments, helping with use of appliances (i.e., wheelchairs, walker, crutches, hearing aides) as demonstrated, and ASSISTING ONLY with medications
- Completes light housekeeping to maintain a healthy, safe environment, including dusting, vacuuming, damp mopping, doing laundry, washing dishes, shopping, preparing meals, and helping with payment of bills
- Promotes the patient’s mental alertness through conversation, reading, games, and other activities
- Reports any changes in patient’s mental or physical condition to the supervisor
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old and show maturity as well as emotional and mental stability
- Must successfully complete an approved training course to carry out assigned duties
- Must be able to understand and carry out directions and instructions, record messages, and keep simple records
- Must have a sympathetic attitude towards providing services for the residents
- Must be in good physical health and have the ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during working hours; lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds; and see and hear to carry out job duties
- Must be willing and able to participate in 12 or more hours of in-service education per year
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
- Must be able to complete job duties while subject to frequent interruptions
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of this position
