Overview:Under the immediate supervision of the Manager of Inpatient Pharmacy Operations and Registered Pharmacists, the Pharmacy Technician II will assist registered pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical services to patients within the medical center including but not limited to: delivery of medications, preparation of sterile products, stocking of automated dispensing cabinets, responding to nursing messages, performing inventory management activities, performing unit inspections, and answering phones. Pharmacy technicians are expected to demonstrate efficient time management, organization of work, and prioritization.
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS: Assigned Duties: Accurately delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas. Returns medications from patient care areas when on delivery rounds. Delivers Stat doses to the patient care areas. Delivers other documents or items as needed or requested by pharmacist or nursing. Fills physician orders, medication carts, and stock requisitions accurately.Repackages and tadpoles medications safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate process. Delivers to patient specific med bins on units. Restocking of Pyxis machines and maintaining correct inventory of stock. Some routine maintenance of Pyxis machines. Proper phone etiquette and professionalism will be used at all times. Answers telephone identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. Prepares IV sterile products accurately using proper aseptic technique and follows USP < 797> guidelines at all times. Prepares hazardous IV sterile products using proper aseptic technique and follow USP < 797> and guidelines at all times. Enters bulk charges and credits for patient medications accurately. Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean. Documents and cleans IV hoods. Checks and records temperature and/or humidity of refrigerators and various areas. Or any other duties as assigned Department/Service Quality and Performance Improvement (PI): Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications. Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Possess proficiency in computer and basic math skills. IV room/sterile compounding experience required. The ability to work well under periods of continued stress. Must interact well with people, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Pharmacy Technician License or eligible licensure in both Illinois and Iowa. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board - PTCB or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians - ExCPT certification designation is required.
