Position Summary
Fair Trade USA is seeking a Philanthropy Manager to join its Development team and help ensure the philanthropic success of its mission, vision and programs. This is an opportunity to work with one of the best-known brands in the nonprofit and social entrepreneurship space with the support of an energetic and visionary Founder & CEO.
The Philanthropy Manager drives generation of contributed revenue from institutions and major donors. The Manager will research prospects, develop leads, cultivate relationships, design and submit grant proposals and reports, and manage funder communications to support FTUSA philanthropically.
The Philanthropy Manager reports to the Senior Director, Partnerships and Philanthropy. The Manager will collaborate closely with other Fair Trade USA departments - particularly Impact, Producer Services, Retail, Tech, and Finance - to develop philanthropic projects and programs, and acts as a bridge between these teams and philanthropy program officers. . In addition to managing an institutional portfolio, the Philanthropy Manager will manage the annual and monthly donor programs and collaborate with the Executive Office to cultivate new and existing major donors.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manages institutional giving funding pipeline, contributes to team budget and revenue projections
- Responsible for annualized and long-term organization revenue goals, to be agreed upon with the Director, which increase over time as appropriate
- Research prospects for new potential funding opportunities
- Responsible for direct relationship management and cultivation of funders
- Develop compelling concept notes, proposals, grant submissions and funder communications (both written and oral)
- Review and provide feedback for concept notes and grant submissions written by other Development Team members as needed
- Manage the annual and monthly donor programs while providing support for major donor work, ultimately to support the department’s unrestricted revenue goals
- Provide support in foundation grant management
- Support project and program design and budget development in collaboration with relevant internal departments
- Occasional travel to domestic and international destinations, including site visits with major partners/donors
- Oversee timely tax acknowledgment process of all gifts and grants
Qualifications
Required Skills, Experience, & Knowledge
- 3-5 years work experience in fund development and proven ability to meet fundraising goals
- Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and connections in institutional philanthropy, CSR, international development, sustainability, environmental resource management, or related fields
- Experience working in a donor database or CRM, including gift processing, processing systems, reporting, and financial reconciliation
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong research skills and analytic reporting experience; ability to synthesize and present complex information in a concise, persuasive way
- Ability to work in a flexible, yet fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment; able to meet deadlines and share progress regularly
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as appropriate
- Self-motivated, attention to detail, patience, team player, and the ability to stay calm under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines
Education & Training
- Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree a strong plus
Technology & Software
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to format and design templates
- Expertise in Salesforce or equivalent CRM tool
