Reports to: Executive Director
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Development Officer has oversight for the total Development/Fundraising process. Proposal writing, cultivation, marketing, event planning, and alumni development are the major components of the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Organize a systematic approach to the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gift prospects of $1,000+. This includes conducting comprehensive research, orchestrating a review of the current donor base, organizing screening sessions with Board members, and planning and coordinating outreach strategies to advance relationships with major prospects.
Ø Significantly enlarge the number of major individual prospects being cultivated.
Ø Responsible for the development and implementation and follow-up of the Fundraising Plan.
Ø Prepare all necessary correspondence, stewardship reports, proposals and other materials needed to facilitate the cultivation and solicitation of major prospects.
Ø Participate with Board members and volunteers in the cultivation and solicitation of major prospects.
Ø Organize any recognition activities for donors.
Ø Maintain database of in-depth information on major prospects.
Ø Write proposals to foundations, elected officials, government agencies and corporations.
Ø Prepare and submit funding contracts documentation.
Ø Assist in preparing program reports.
Ø Assist with preparation of annual operating budget.
Ø Organize special events to raise funds for the organization.
Ø Participate in program planning in conjunction with Board and staff.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts degree in Non-profit management, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Social Work; Sociology; Psychology; Human Services or related field; plus two years of experience in development or administrative field; strong writing skills; skills in interpersonal communication; sensitivity in working with Latina women; bilingual/bicultural; ability to work as part of a team; and ability to work independently. A strong commitment to uphold the mission and vision of the Center is a must. Previous experience in community organizing, grassroots activism a plus.
Other requirements are: previous work with a non –profit organization; strong oral & written communication; prior experience writing grant proposals; ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks; ability to work autonomously under pressure of deadline; and computer literacy and database experience. Raiser's Edge experience and knowledge of PowerPoint and/or desktop publishing software strongly preferred.
