The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL (Lake Bluff, IL) location in the Transfusion Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
As the Planning Manager, you’ll have the chance to manage a team of production planners and raw material planners ensuring worldwide product availability for all ADD's Lake County manufactured finished kits and lower-level components. This is done supporting the ADD policy of improving health care by providing high quality, safe and effective diagnostic products. The team will achieve this objective by balancing several dynamic and conflicting elements including cycle time management, inventory management, capacity planning, distressed inventory management, technical challenges, and productivity while maintaining the highest level of compliance. More specifically, the planning team develops materially feasible production plans that will ensure the highest level of customer service, maintain finished goods safety stock levels, and manage production requirements for worldwide affiliates who source material from Lake County. This plan must also meet financial and SCOP objectives.
What You’ll Work On
Direct supervision of incoming material planners.
Translate inputs from technical meetings and marketing into a materially feasible production or purchase plan that ensures customer satisfaction along with responsible inventory investment.
Develop contingency plans in advance to facilitate immediate action in response to sales/inventory changes/supplier issues and daily production issues that negatively impact the production plan.
Define production strategy during product transitions including product launches, kills, conversions and transfers.
Manage the purchase plan for all raw materials to meet production plans along with inventory goals, including but not limited to evaluating and maintaining the planning parameters in SAP to ensure the team is planning utilizing ERP.
Research, evaluate, and recommend changes to procurement strategies and suppliers to optimize the incoming material supply continuity for the site.
Develop and execute the Safety Stock strategy that supports the manufacturing plan, utilizing the basic tenants of safety stock calculation, supply variability, lead time, and demand variability.
Liaise with functional or operational area managers (for example in production, supply and logistics, maintenance, engineering, purchasing, or human resources).
Lead/represent Supply Chain on various projects throughout the site
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree: B.S. Life Science/Math/Business or equivalent experience in Production Planning/PAC
Minimum of six years planning experience and/or equivalent supervisory experience.
Full knowledge of MRP, MPS, Factory Planner.
Demonstrated ability to work with database software.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree: Not required, but desired.
APICS certification preferred.
Project management experience is desired.
Flexibility, strong problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, solid organizational ability, negotiations skills with ability to drive cross functional teams
