Job description
The Town of Windham is looking for an individual to join our Police Department as one of its newest officers. The Windham Police Department offers a schedule and staffing level allow for a strong work-life balance. As a patrol officer you will work one of four fixed shifts with an option to bid a different shift once per year. Officers work four 10-hour days with three days off. Our current team schedule offers weekends off every other month. Our department enjoys strong community support - this upcoming year we have been approved for an additional police officer position, and we will be adding a 3rd School resource officer to our SRO program. In 2021, the Town completed a major addition and renovation to the Public Safety Building which includes a state of the training room and new gym available to all employees. Additionally, the Town has just proposed a 6.5% wage increase effective July 1, 2023.
We take pride in being a progressive department. We have developed one of the leading Crash Reconstruction teams in the state of Maine, we were the first municipal police department in the state of Maine to develop and implement a UAV (done) program. We work hard to support our community and visitors by using community partnerships to provide comprehensive services and make a difference in people’s lives. We previously worked with area agencies to staff a Substance Use Liaison Program. Last year we developed a new Community Resource Liaison Program which puts a mental health clinician on staff to assist community members in getting connected with services and gives officers another tool to help with those dealing with mental health and substance use issues.
