Position Vacancy – Patrol Officer
Madison Township, (Franklin County) Ohio is seeking candidates for the position of Patrol Officer. Madison Township is one of seventeen (17) townships situated in the southeast corner of Franklin County, bordered by Fairfield and Pickaway Counties. The annual salary range for this position is $59,451 – 84, 710. Lateral Transfers may start at step A or higher on the wage scale. This position is classified as non-exempt/bargaining. Preference is given to bi-lingual, veterans, or social worker applicants.
Department:
Madison Township Police Department was established in 1972 and has provided policing services with integrity, honor, respect, and professionalism to the residents of Madison Township for fifty years. The department has an authorized strength of 21 sworn officers for 2023 and is directed by a Police Chief, and supervised by a Patrol Commander, and three Patrol Sergeants. In addition, the department has two School Resource Officers (SRO), and three companies of Patrol Officers.

Contract Package:
Lateral Transfers, Shift Differential Pay, Longevity, Pension Pick-Up, Overtime, Compensatory Time up to 200 hours, Substitution of Time, Tuition Reimbursement, Wellness Payment, Vacation up to 10.8 hours per pay period, Sick Leave 10 hours per month, Annual Shift Bid, Holiday Options; 88 hours in pay, time off or a combination of both. All uniforms and equipment are provided by the Township.
The Community:
The current population of the township is estimated by the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commissions at 26,491 including 11,041 residents and 4,265 housing units in unincorporated portions of the township. The township encompasses an area of 40.6 square miles. In 2021 Township officers handled 3, 479 dispatched calls, 28,367 Calls for Service, and logged 159,964 patrol miles in Madison Township.
In addition, the following municipalities lie, in parts, within the boundaries of Madison Township: the City of Columbus, the City of Groveport, the City of Canal Winchester, the City of Obetz, the Village of Lithopolis, and the City of Pickerington. Madison Township is also home to two area school districts, the Canal Winchester Local Schools, and the Groveport-Madison School District.
The township is governed per the Ohio Revised Code, chapter 505, with a governing board of three (3) township trustees, a fiscal officer, and a township administrator.
Requirements:
· OPOTC Certified at the time of appointment
· 21 years of age
· High school diploma; BS degree in police science or related field is desirable
· Valid driving license
· Responsibility, dependability, honesty, and integrity

· Sound judgment along with effective decision-making skills
· Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
· Excellent knowledge of standard operating procedures, judicial procedures, civil and constitutional laws

· Willing to submit to extensive medical and criminal checks including:
o A thorough background check
o Polygraph
o Psychological evaluation
o Drug and alcohol screening
· Strong employment history
· Willingness to work various shifts and holidays

· Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
· The ability to understand computer basics
Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
· Follow rules, guidelines, and protocols
· Foster good public relationships and liaise with community groups or individuals
· Deter crimes and assure the community through high-visibility policing
· Patrol assigned areas and monitor activities to protect people/property
· Responds to emergency calls and complaints
· Conduct criminal investigations
· Conduct traffic accident investigations
· Interviews witnesses and suspects
· Gather evidence and ensure successful prosecutions
· Issues citations and makes arrests of suspected criminals
· Attend and provide evidence in court
· Coordinate operations with other emergency services
· Performs house watches and security checks
· Provides emergency services (e.g., first aid)
· Works extra duty assignments as necessary
