Job SummaryReceive requests for police, fire, and emergency assistance from the public, including calls from the deaf using TDD and Texas Relay and relays calls for service to the appropriate agency or units. Perform all dispatch functions of the Department and the Bee Cave Police Department as well as the city"s public works, code enforcement staff, Lakeway Municipal Utility District emergency response personnel, and in emergencies may, liaison with other law enforcement, regulatory and related agencies such as CAPCOG, TLETS, and Travis county Sheriff"s Office. Receive phone and walk-in requests for assistance. Maintain a positive attitude.

100.00% - MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigns and broadcasts all police calls, according to priority, to the nearest available field unit within geographic area of responsibility.
Receives and relays all information from field to appropriate personnel to ensure all necessary information/equipment is readily available.
Maintains case logs, radio logs and various formats of recording the police, fire and Lakeway MUD activities.
Prepares and updates daily records of patrol activities to provide daily dispatching documentation.
Informs field officers of major incidents, hazardous situations or locations.
Monitors and/or assists on police matters such as: prisoner search, warrant confirmation, stolen property inquiries, message/bulletin broadcasts.
Sends and receives messages on the teletype, listing wanted or missing persons and/or stolen articles in NCIC/TCIC (the FBI and DPS files).
Monitors computers, any incoming dispatch requests, phone and officers though out shift, and ensure prompt processing of requests and requested information.
Exercises proper judgment when dealing with emergency situations.
Communicates courteously with the general public and answers questions that may arise about services provided.
Communicates effectively via police radio, telephone, and in person, with co-workers and all others, including persons of diverse backgrounds and in altered emotional and psychological states.
Conveys a positive professional image by action, communication and appearance.
Exhibits regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Assists administration staff with projects/programs as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KSA's - Knowledge
Thorough knowledge of computer programs, related technical equipment and dispatch codes, or ability to develop such knowledge.
Proficiency in operating a computer terminal, a two-way radio, standard radio broadcasting procedures and rules and dispatch office procedures.
Must have or develop a thorough knowledge of geographic layout of the area served.
Skills/ability to
Listen, hear and speak clearly and distinctly in the English language.
Communicate effectively and diplomatically, both orally and in writing.
Manage several emergency situations at one time and use good judgment in determining proper response.
Effectively respond to a multi-task, stressful or high pressure environment prioritizing emergency and non-emergency communication in a calm manner.
Keyboard at a corrected speed of at least 35 words per minute.
Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management, City officials, vendors, other government agencies, other employees and the general public.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work environment is primarily an office setting, where noise and temperature levels are moderate.
Subject to high stress situations, including receiving details of criminal acts of violence.
Shift schedule varies, including after-hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Work may occasionally require travel, including over-night stays, involving training or conducting City business.
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: grasping, handling, hearing, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR LICENSES
Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
High school diploma or GED required.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
All other criteria listed in TCOLE Rule ยง217.2
Maintain required FEMA courses.
Licensed TCOLE Telecommunicator with one (1) year full time work experience, preferred.

Starts at: $20.71/hr. ($43,088) with no prior 9-1-1 dispatching experience. We will train! Dispatch for Police only. EMS and Fire calls are transferred. This a great career opportunity with no degree requirement.
Full salary range is $43,088 - $64,632. Higher rates of pay are offered to TCOLE licensed Telecommunicators.
TCOLE monthly certification pay:
$50 Intermediate Telecommunicator
$100 Advanced Telecommunicator
$150 Master Telecommunicator
Additionally:
$75 Spanish Level II (testing required)
This is shift work. Shifts are 12 hours. 6am-6pm or 6pm-6am. Shifts rotate every four months. You are scheduled 15 days a month. Every other weekend you will have a three day weekend off.

Retirement
The City is a member of the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Employees contribute 7% of their gross wages on a pre-tax basis to TMRS. The City matches 2:1. Thus the city contributes 14%. You are vested after five years of employment. Vested employees will receive their own and the City"s matching contributions, plus interest upon retirement via monthly payment options. You are eligible to retire once vested and age 60 or 20 years of service at any age. While working you also have a supplemental death benefit equal to 1 times your yearly salary.
Holiday
The City recognizes 13 Holidays per calendar year. New Year"s Day, MLK Day, President"s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the Day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Effective immediately.
Sick Time
8 hours per month with a maximum of 480 hours. May be taken at the first of the month following one month of employment.
Vacation
8 hours per month for the first five years. Accrual rate increases after 5 years and 10 years. May be taken at the first of the month following one month of employment.
Personal Time
16 hours per calendar year. May be taken at the first of the month following one month of employment.

Long Term Disability
The City pays for long term disability which covers 50% of monthly pre-disability pay. The maximum monthly benefit is $5,000.

$10,000 guarantee issue provided by the City. Supplemental life insurance and dependent life insurance is available.

Deferred Compensation
Employees may voluntarily contribute to this optional program at a minimum set by the plan administrator ($10 per check) or a maximum set annually by the IRS.
Pay Cycle
For pay purposes the work week begins at 12:01 am on Sunday and ends at midnight on Saturday. Employees are paid bi-weekly on Friday. If payday falls on a holiday, payday will be on the day preceding the holiday.
