Description:
The "Benchmarking Test Engineer" will be a part of the Propulsion Systems Benchmarking and Value Optimization group and will be responsible for conducting vehicle-based evaluation of competitive hybrid/electric vehicles. This individual will coordinate with cross functional product development teams to plan experiments, setup data acquisition, analyze and interpret results to guide future tests, and generate reports for product development teams peers and supervisors.
Duties
- Instrument competitive test vehicles with a variety of sensors (accelerometers, thermocouples, microphones, etc.) to collect data for characterizing and monitoring the vehicle's performance on track and on rolls.
- Tap into the CAN lines and use tools like Vehicle Spy, OBD scanner to acquire CAN and PID channels on competitive vehicles as per the needs of the requesting Product Development team.
- Perform on track drivability assessment at Chelsea Proving grounds to support competitive benchmarking activities to understand competitors' strategies in the areas of drivability and Propulsion system capability.
- Conduct analyses of AVL Drive data to identify drivability concerns, prepare and present reports of AVL Drive results to calibrators and calibration management teams.
- Perform tests on several federally mandated test cycles on the dyno to understand competitive strategies related to fuel economy/emissions and EV range.
- Support competitive hardware teardown workshops
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree from an accredited university
- 1+ years of experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Analytical problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills Fundamental knowledge of Hybrid, Electric automotive architectures
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Applied Physics, Electrical, Mechanical, or System Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Experience with test development tools such as but not limited to Python, Visual Basic etc.
- Ability to use CAN/Networking tools such as but not limited to: INCA, ODX, CANAlyser,
- working on-site at CTC with some travel to CPG case by case basis.
