Sunnybeam School on Mercer Island is looking for a Preschool Teacher to join our teaching team and our preschool family. Sunnybeam School is a play-based, part-time preschool that believes that during the preschool years, children should develop social, emotional and intellectual tools through activities that encourage them to work together, experiment, and problem solve. We create an environment that leads children to socialize with each other, make their own discoveries, and develop a love for learning. Sunnybeam is a strong community that feels more like a family.

The ideal candidate will have teaching experience or a strong desire to learn from seasoned teachers and a true love for 3-5 year olds. Led by an experienced Lead Teacher, the Sunnybeam teaching team works cohesively to keep the classroom on pace with the daily schedule while maintaining a calm, positive and fun atmosphere. Sunnybeam is looking for a strong candidate who is able to jump in where needed.

Essential Functions

• Works in close cooperation with Lead Teacher and other teachers
• Participates actively in the teaching team through communication and collaboration
• Is comfortable leading “circle time” or willing to learn
• Nurtures positive relationships between children
• Communicates with parent/guardians with sensitivity, interest, and respect
• Is able to comfortably teach and work with children during outside / playground time
• Follows all safety and health rules while supervising all children at all times
• Demonstrates awareness of the entire group whether working with a small group or individuals
• Keeps the environment and equipment safe, clean and organized

• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
• Effective communication
• A willingness to learn by observing, listening and constructive feedback
• Good situational awareness with multiple students in a classroom or playground
• A positive, happy, fun personality
• Creativity and artistic ability a plus
• An appreciation for our historic school and our traditions

Education / Knowledge

• 1+ years of Early Childhood Education experience desirable
• CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain certification desirable

Position Schedule & Details

Position begins August 28, 2023 with the option of working 5 weeks during the summer. Our school is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-1:30pm, Tuesdays and Thursday 1:30-3:30pm and follows the Mercer Island School District calendar. Position is to work all mornings with the option to add afternoons. 30-40 hours/week.
