MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form:
1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s degree (or higher) in accounting, mathematics, business administration or a
closely related field
OR
2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
and three years (36 months) of full time paid clerical experience (or its part time 20 hour per week paid equivalence) involving the maintenance of records and reports.
DUTIES: The work involves responsibility for planning, assigning and supervising major account keeping activities and/or independently performing difficult and responsible account keeping functions. May coordinate health benefits. The work is performed under general direction of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Finance (City Hall), or Library Director (SSPL), with considerable leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment for carrying out the details of the work in accordance with established policies and procedures. Supervision may be exercised over the work of all subordinates. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
- Posts figures to appropriate accounts, makes all necessary adjustments in balances and verifies and reconciles balances; renews status of accounts as adjustments are made and takes appropriate action as authorizing payment, issuing checks or preparing bills;
- Verifies adjustments are made to correct allocations and issues reports as required;
- Checks for accuracy of computations and completeness or supervises the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports which are compiled into summary reports or claims for state or federal reimbursement;
- Prepares in final format, accounting and financial statements, payrolls, statistical tabulations and data, form letters, memoranda, vouchers, reports, requisitions or data from various equipment as the source material;
- Prepares funds for deposit into book accounts, reconciles accounts and prepares reports from information;
- Contacts clients, vendors or other agencies to obtain additional information;

A provisional appointment is pending the appropriate NYS Civil Service Exam announced and administered locally. The provisional appointee will be required to sign up to take the exam once it is announced, pay the exam fee (or waiver, pass the exam and rank in the top three (3) grades to secure a permanent appointment**
