Dynetics, a Leidos company, is seeking a Principle Mechanical Engineering Design Lead to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. The Principle Mechanical Design Engineer will support Dynetics’ development of space hardware for Space Systems Division Universal Stage Adapter(USA). This role will lead a team of designers supporting USA with the Assembly, Integration, & Test or the Flight hardware product teams. Candidate will be responsible for the mechanical design of systems, subassemblies, and components. Candidate will utilize 3D CAD software to evaluate or integrate designs with existing systems and at times also produce designs. Candidate will apply sound mechanical engineering and design principles in the development of machined, structural, fabricated, and occasionally sheet metal components. Candidate will develop design concepts given documented requirements. Candidate will oversee Bill of Material development and component specification for mechanical assemblies as well as applying engineering design processes, design for manufacturing, & drawing production.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Candidate must have at least twelve (12) years of demonstrated mechanical design experience using 3D computer aided design (CAD) software.
  • Candidate must have experience drafting and reviewing mechanical drawings to ASME Y14 standards.
  • Candidate must have experience working with PDM and PLM systems.
  • Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

Candidate will be a resident of Huntsville, Alabama or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville, Alabama area.

Other Qualifications

  • Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge of:
    • Designing space flight hardware
    • Composites experience for flight structures
    • Design of tooling and weldments for large structures
    • Technical design lead for projects
    • CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, or Creo MCAD packages
    • Finite Element Modeling (FEM) software packages
    • Certifications for MCAD Systems

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
