As a key member of the Audit, Compliance, & Information Security Department (ACIS), you will be responsible for performing a variety of technical duties and projects that are essential to advancing the overall goals and objectives of the Scripps Corporate Privacy Program. You will manage sensitive and confidential information and materials in support of the various daily ACIS activities. Additionally, you will perform diagnostic reviews, risk assessments, monitoring reviews, investigations and audits related to confidential information, which includes both protected health information and personal financial information.

The duties of the Privacy Specialist include:

  • Monitoring access to various IS systems, medical records and other documentation to assess adherence to established policies related to privacy and protection of confidential information.
  • Review "Confidential Data" Authorization forms and makes recommendations for approval.
  • Conducts privacy education for staff and physicians.
  • Assemble and analyzes activity information and/or data and prepares written reports that will be viewed by senior management.
  • Research laws and regulations as related to privacy and impact on policies.

This is a Full Time (80 hours every two weeks) benefited position, working 8 hour shifts Monday through Friday. Located at Scripps Corporate Offices in San Diego, CA. This position is a hybrid role and will require working onsite a few days per week.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 Years' experience in health care operations role, with at least 1 year related to patient privacy and/or protection of confidential information (including protected health information).
  • Requires a high level of interpersonal, problem solving, and analytic skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Innovative with ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Able to adapt, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Technical knowledge of privacy concepts, confidential information internal controls and safeguards, technologies, and applicable rules and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of health care regulations related to patient privacy and protection of confidential information.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work in highly computerized work environment.
  • Ability to investigate and collect relevant facts including researching applicable policies, regulations, or laws.
  • Experience organizing and managing diverse files and reports.
  • Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets and forms to promote analytical efficiency and consolidation of audit information, with emphasis on attention to detail.


Required Certification/Registration:

  • Privacy Certification from AHIMA or HCCA is required, or must be attained within 18 months of hire.
