Private school Art Teacher / Atelierista
Job description
The Atelierista, with a background in the Arts, provides the school with extensive knowledge of materials and techniques. She or he works in collaboration with the teachers, School Director, and Pedagogical Coordinator to support ongoing projects with the children inside and outside the classroom.
During the introductory period, the employee’s supervisor explains job responsibilities and the performance standards expected. From time to time, the employee may be asked to work on special projects or to assist with other work necessary or important to the operation of KLA Schools. His or her cooperation and assistance in performing such additional work is expected and appreciated.
Key Responsibilities of the Atelierista
· Works with all children on a regular basis
· Exposes children to diversity of materials
· Projects children’s experiences
· Documents children’s experiences
· Oversees weekly journals
· Collaborates with the teachers to support continuity of ongoing projects in the classroom (The classroom teachers are responsible to share classroom experiences with the Atelierista; the Atelierista is responsible to support these experiences in the atelier or classroom as deemed appropriate by the Atelierista, classroom teachers, School Director, and Pedagogical Coordinator.)
· Keeps and tracks needed materials in the atelier and school
· Informs the School Director monthly what classroom/atelier materials need to be reordered
· Attends various trainings and seminars
· Attends Atelieristas’ meetings
· Supports the school in creating digital artwork and school forms as needed
· Supports the school during special events
· Coordinates and organizes yearbook submission with the School Director (It is the teachers’ responsibility to have the files completed and submitted to the Atelierista on the given date.)
Reporting relationship
· Reports directly to School Director, Owner, and KLA Schools Headquarters
Job Requirements
· Knowledge of children's physical, emotional, spiritual, and developmental patterns
· Knowledge of general learning theories and curriculum-development alternatives
· Professional skills in the areas of curriculum planning, service staff training, program goal setting, lesson plan development, and procedure establishing for evaluating the progress of individual children
· Ability to develop new and imaginative programs within the field of early childhood education
· Emotional maturity and stability
· High personal integrity
· Sensitivity to individual and group needs of children; ability to provide a joyful approach to the child
· Computer literacy in Word, Excel, Power Point, and iMovie
· Time management skills
· Excellence in spelling, grammar, and punctuation
· Background working with children
· Ability to handle detailed work
· Ability to speak distinctly and to communicate verbally
· Experience in art and with materials
· Adherence to all health, safety, and operating procedures as outlined by KLA Schools
· Ability, in the event of the school’s transition to a Virtual Learning Program, to support the planning and implementation of that program as well as participate in all virtual meetings and events that may be required by the School Director
Educational Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in fine arts or degree in art education
· Experience in early childhood education (preferred)
· 45 Hours of Childcare Training
· Commitment to follow state, federal, and KLA Schools guidelines
· Background screening requirements
· Strong understanding and familiarity with the Reggio Emilia Philosophy
Health Requirements
· Ability to frequently lift, move, or hold children up to 40 pounds
· Ability to occasionally lift, move, or hold weight up to 40 pounds
· Ability to supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods in varied weather conditions
· Full range of motion to lift, reach, squat, climb, sit, and otherwise fully participate in activities
· Immediate and appropriate responsiveness to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies
· Mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements (If upon examination or as a result of tests, the individual shows indication of a physical, emotional, or mental condition which could be hazardous to a child, staff, or self and which would prevent satisfactory performance of duties, the individual shall not be assigned or returned to a position until the condition clears to the satisfaction of the examining physician.)

Pay: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour
