Job Summary
Hartzell Propeller seeks an energetic and hands on Process Control Manager to lead initiatives and people in the areas of improved product quality, on time deliveries, shorter lead times and lower costs. The manager will be responsible to create a process control budget, allocate resources and determine schedule for project completion. In addition, the Process Control Manager will help define the appropriate inspection procedures, sampling frequency and inspection techniques. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation and understanding of inspection based quality and process control. In addition, the candidate would be well served to have experience with an FAA based quality system.
Key Deliverables:
1) Provide proactive leadership necessary to drive, develop and monitor critical metrics
a. Deliver quality parts, on time, at target lead times, and lowest total cost to customers
b. Issue spot and drive solutions to items that impact these metrics
2) Ensure quality standards are being met
3) Define the appropriate procedures, sampling frequency and inspection techniques for our products
4) Identify root case of quality issues and develop plan to eliminate future quality issues.
Requirements:
Education/Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering with an emphasis on Quality preferred or ten years of equivalent experience required.
Technical Competencies
1) Excellent verbal and written communication skills
2) Demonstrated understanding of quality management system requirements
a. Ability to write manuals and requirements, technical procedures and document processes
b. Ability to interpret requirements and implement into the quality management system
3) In-depth knowledge of inspection methods
a. The ability to define the appropriate methods used to inspect the product (metrology)
b. Demonstrated ability to communicate inspection plans to the personnel in the machine shop
c. Ability to perform bench inspection with the appropriate gaging and understanding of datum structures.
4) Structured problem solving skills to determine root cause
a. Ability to develop a plausible root cause and implement effective corrective action.
b. Familiarization with the principles of Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.
5) Knowledge of Manufacturing
a. Capability of automated machine tools and inspection methods.
b. Metal cutting operations, fixtures, tooling and machining.
c. CNC programming and applications.
d. Processing of raw materials (casting vs. forgings, etc.)
e. Material characteristics (Aluminum, Steel, Titanium, Composite, etc.)
f. Advanced experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerances (interpretation and application)
g. Understanding of the programming capabilities of a CMM
h. Basic understanding of non-destructive testing methods, the application of each method and the requirements needed to
certify processes and individuals
6) Organization skills
a. LEAN principles
b. Group facilitation
c. Project management
7) Gage management:
a. Gage calibration and inventory management experience.
b. Research and obtain Best-in-Class measurement capabilities
c. Create and prove out gage calibration procedures traceable to NIST
d. Ability to manage out of tolerance gage conditions
8) Proficient Computer Skills (MS-Office, Excel and quality inspection management software)
