Job Position: Process Engineer


Position Description:

The Process Engineer at International Paper’s Riegelwood Mill will provide technical support to the mill in general or to a specific area within the mill. Major departments include pulp mill, power plant, paper/pulp/finished products. Candidate needs to be flexible with job tasks which may include troubleshooting process and equipment issues, data collection and mining, analysis, managing trials and projects, facilitating manufacturing process improvements, assisting with start-up and shut-down activities, solving reliability and quality control problems. The candidate is expected to maintain knowledge of current best practices for assigned areas and to develop and champion process improvement/cost reduction projects. Computer skills (PI, Proficy, WinGems, etc.) desired. The position requires excellent communication skills with all personnel levels. PL will vary depending upon experience and qualifications.




Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Conducting all activities safely and according to proper safety practices
  • Managing projects (both individual and team situations)


  • Designing and implementing trials for various product and/or process changes
  • Assisting departmental managers and technical leaders with special projects


  • Facilitating manufacturing process improvements
  • Solving reliability, quality control, and process-related problems


  • Commissioning, installing, and starting up new equipment
  • Planning elective learning opportunities based on current assignments and development needs


Qualifications:

  • BS degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical or pulp and paper engineering (environmental engineering and industrial engineering graduates are also considered for occasional openings).
  • Desire to work in manufacturing.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with people.
  • Desire to work in manufacturing front line leadership role.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
