SCOPE OF WORK:
This position is responsible for supervising the daily activities of an assigned team of production employees, as well as temporary associates provided through staffing agencies. The Production Supervisor provides technical hands-on leadership to the staff to ensure production goals are being achieved with safety, quality, and productivity in mind. The positions that report directly to the Production Supervisor include but are not limited to: Roll Handler, Grinder/Pelletizer, Punch Operator, Material Handler and Machine Operator. This position also may receive work assignments from other members of the JDR management team.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Assigns and directs job assignments to assigned team members
- Trains or oversees the training of individuals newly assigned or hired to a position
- Provides additional training to staff as required, to include position cross-training when applicable
- Provides coaching and guidance to staff in a consistent and constructive manner
- Troubleshoots process issues and collaborates with member of the management team to identify ideas and solutions
- Works closely with management to improve safety, quality, cost, delivery and productivity
- Coordinates with the shipping department to resolve product packaging and quality issues
- Audits employees’ performance to ensure adherence to established guidelines and procedures
- Recommends staff employees for promotional opportunities to the Production Manager or other members of the management team, as applicable
- Recommends the need for disciplinary action of staff employees to the Production Manager, conducting related conversations in conjunction with the Production Manager
- Audits the performance of temporary associates assigned through staffing agencies to ensure adherence to established guidelines and procedures
- Recommends to the Production Manager the hiring of temporary associates assigned through staffing agencies, and the dismissal of those not meeting position expectations
- Assists the Production Manager with continuous improvement initiatives to improve current processes and reduce cost
- Collaborates and interacts with management team to improve metrics; including safety, quality, delivery, cost and staff
- Maintains a safe work environment, including but not limited to keeping the line clean and free of debris
- May drive a forklift, once trained, as needed
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Production Manager, Plant Manager, or other members of the management team
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- One to three years’ related experience, preferably in an extrusion manufacturing facility
- Three to five years’ experience is a supervisory capacity, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Three to five years’ experience years working within a team environment
- Knowledge of JDR products and manufacturing process preferred
- Ability to supervise a work team and troubleshoot problems with little or no direction
- Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel), use of PC and internet
- Reliable and flexible, able to supervise shifts as needed based on business demands
- Excellent work ethic
- Good decision-making skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate, read and write effectively in English
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Standing and bending for extended periods of time
- Lifting up to 50 pounds in a safe and prudent manner, as trained without straining
- Ability to easily move through an approximately 70,000 square foot manufacturing/warehouse building
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Ability to relay necessary information to co-workers
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer and general office equipment
- Correctable vision and hearing
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $58,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
