Position:

Promotoras Scholars Program Coordinator. This is a Full-Time, Benefitted,

Non-Exempt position starting at $28.00 an hour DOE through Cal Poly Humboldt. It is

anticipated that the position will continue through the fiscal year 2024, with a 3%

wage COL increase after each 6 months. This is not a state position; the employer is

the Sponsored Programs Foundation.

The Program:

The program, funded through a U.S. Department of Education Title V grant, focuses

on promoting teaching as a prospective career for Humboldt Hispanic and low-income

students through recruitment, preparation, and support of teacher candidates.

Project activities are focused on issues of social justice and equity and include

curricular revisions at the freshman and junior years, integrated student services

focused on advising, academic success and cultural sustainability, increased

collaboration among Humboldt teacher pathways, credential recruitment, and

professional development activities for university faculty.

Position Summary:

The Program Coordinator will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator to

supervise staff, direct services, and expand activities related to transfer learning

communities, student professional development, the project’s already existing

student stipend and employment programs, and faculty professional development.

This role serves as a campus champion of teacher education and our related academic

programs. The incumbent will supervise all project student staff and support various

project advisory board meetings. They will assist in the maintenance of project

narrative content including social media, websites, and professional presentation and

publications. The Program Coordinator will also liaise with numerous administrative

offices on campus (e.g. PBLCs, EOP, RAMP, colleges, Admissions, Registrar) and be the

point of first contact for several activities. All duties listed will be executed in

consultation with the Principal Investigator.

Essential Job Functions:

Overall program coordination- 40%

  • Weekly meetings with grant team
  • Coordinate project related meetings (Faculty working groups, Advisory board,

special projects groups)

  • Support and participate in data collection and draft grant reports
  • Maintain program and financial records
  • Coordinate purchases and travel for grant related activities (hospitality,

supplies, services, fieldtrip planning)

  • Support data collection processes and support project reporting
  • Assist faculty and staff with grant-related paperwork (e.g. timesheets,

requisition orders)

  • Review and manage student recruitment and acceptance into grant programs

Program/Development - 30%

  • Overall planning/execution of transfer year LCs
  • Identify eligible students
  • Collaborate with partner programs (EOP, RAMP, Cultural Centers,

Learning Center, ResLife, ACAC)

  • Coordinatefaculty and staff working groups to design, organize, and

implement pilot programs

  • Attend and participate in relevant conferences (i.e. AHSIE)
  • Organize, collaborate, support and promote the Professional Development for

project faculty partners

  • Design and/or enhance, in partnership with teaching faculty and staff,

programs related to teacher preparation at Cal Poly Humboldt

  • Mentor all students in grant activities including potential teaching credential

candidates

  • Attend regular meetings with campus divisions (re: implementation of all grant

activities)

Outreach and recruitment- 15%

  • Coordinate

  • Support Recruitment/Admissions for Teacher Preparation Programs:
  • Coordinate (and in some cases attend) tabling events
  • Promote grant programs
  • Develop materials with MarComm
  • Direct outreach efforts to recruit prospective students
  • Manage communication with admitted students
  • Project dissemination:
  • Author or co-author publications or conference presentations
  • Coordinate any campus-wide events/activities related to project

dissemination

Activities/Events- 15%

  • Event Planning for School of Education, College of Professional Studies, and

other affiliate programs that highlight and strengthen project activities.

Examples include: So You Want to Teach Event, Hip Hop Conference, Campus

and Community Dialogue on Race Events, HSI-Week, etc.

  • Academic Year Events
  • Design and put on social and academic events focused on topics related

to education, teacher education, and schools

  • Collaborate with campus organizations and event committees (e.g.

Campus Dialogue on Race, Social Justice Summit, ODEI, and Cultural

Centers) to provide exclusive experiences for our students focused on

topics related to education, teacher education, and schools

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Commitment to social justice and equity issues
  • Commitment to future educators
  • Project planning experience
  • Experience and established familiarity with credentialing processes
  • Experience organizing, coordinating program activities, and/or managing

program activities across education systems

  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge of higher education curriculum design, teaching credential

programs, student services, issues related to accessing education, HSIs, and

Latinx communities’ experiences (particularly within the context of higher

education)

  • Experience in academic publication processes, presentations, and conferences
  • Ability to use multiple technological tools and formats including web design,

database creation and management, and social media platforms

  • Administrative skills related to human resources
  • Organization and communication skills that center non-violence and building an

equitable workplace culture

  • Experience in communicating and organizing across multiple
stakeholders/groups
  • Experience working with undergraduate college students–especially
first-generation and minority students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with related work experience
  • Bilingual
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new systems and programs forecasting

experience

  • Commitment to teaching and education as a profession
  • Systems thinking skills
  • Experience working with faculty in professional development arenas
