Position Overview
Under the direction of the Mental Health Supervisor and as part of the Program Coordinator team, this professional position is responsible for developing, monitoring, coordinating, and continually improving Community Mental Health’s (CMH) contractual mental health, and specialty treatment partnerships. Directly supervises CMH staff delivering services to consumers as well as collaborate with and/or direct the services provided by community partners.
This position is based out of the Holland James St. Office and hours are typically 8am-5pm Monday - Friday.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for the overall development and management of contractual outpatient mental health services to adults with Severe Mental Illness. Reviews and ensures that authorized services are appropriate, effective, and cost effective.
- Provides direct supervision for clinical staff providing clinical, CLS and peer services.
- Provides supervision for subordinate staff, including selection, hiring and termination; training, scheduling and provision of work assignments; performance management; administration of policy and procedure; and administration of discipline.
- Collects and analyzes data from wide variety of sources to establish effective, efficient utilization management and care management strategies. Data may include those from UM/UR, health exchange, and clinical outcome reports.
- Responsible for overall development and management of collaborative programming involving CMH, contractual providers, and community partners.
- Participates in developing budgets for contractual initiatives; monitors budgets to ensure cost effective programming.
- Participates on CMH and/or community collaborative committees, including region specific mental health collaborating meetings
- Develops policies and practice guidelines for contractual mental health services and collaborative programming.
- Seeks and identifies funding opportunities and writes/manages grants associated with assigned programs. Monitors and oversees outcome and reporting data for said grants.
- Identifies training needs and arranges for or delivers training to staff and community providers.
- Coordinates with regional and local prevention efforts and manages CMH’s prevention initiatives.
- Participates as a member of the Program Coordinator team, attends all meetings and provides input on issues related to overall staff development, training, coordination and cross team communication.
- Performs other functions as assigned.
Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or related mental health field with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
Licenses And Certifications:
Must possess or obtain State of Michigan licensure or certification (LLP, LMSW, LPC, etc.)
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license is required.
MCBAP credential CADC, CAADC or CCS preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices of social work, psychology, and the treatment of individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.- Thorough knowledge of the principles of recovery, community integration, and maximized independence.
- Thorough working knowledge of effective leadership techniques, independent problem solving, conflict resolution, team building, and interagency collaboration.
- Thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical assessment and diagnosis, and the DSM-IV criteria.
- Thorough working knowledge of MDCH accreditation requirements and mental health care practitioner licensing requirements.
- Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of community-based mental health services. Demonstrates the capacity to work effectively within agency parameters.
- Good working knowledge of managerial and supervisory principles and practices.
- Good working knowledge of relevant Evidence-Based Practices, relevant to specific target populations.
- Good working knowledge of varied interventions.
- Ability to write clear and concise evaluation reports, progress notes, and other necessary documentation.
- Participates with and accepts clinical and administrative supervision.
- Engages consumers easily and establishes a therapeutic alliance early in the treatment process.
- Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of budget preparation and control.
- Shows willingness to learn and use new skills and takes advantage of regular training and staff development opportunities and resources
- Thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices of medical record documentation and medical records management.
- Good working knowledge of program assessment and quality assurance principles, practices, protocols and instruments.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy and working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, database and project management software.
