The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Program Director III. The Program Director III (PDIII) of Live HealthSmart Alabama provides the leadership, oversight, innovation and direction necessary for successful implementation and expansion of a complex, statewide initiative to improve the health rankings of Alabamians. The scope and scale of activities managed by the PDIII include leadership of LHSA activities including implementation of a management tracking system and milestones; alignment of resources, community partners, fundraising activities and marketing strategies with LHSA aims; execution of initiatives through collaborative partnership formation with community, business and government/institutional entities; as well as supporting consistent program messaging, communications, and reporting activities. Reporting to the LHSA Chief Administrative Officer, the PDIII is responsible for managing relationships community and business organizations in the state, and other affiliated partners. The PD III will monitor project expenditures, ensure compliance with the policies, procedures and regulations of the University/affiliated organizations/external agencies to support an efficient, high-functioning infrastructure to support LHSA goals.
Key Duties, Primary Responsibilities:
- Directs the administrative and fiscal affairs of a large complex department/division or multiple departments
- Represents and speaks on behalf of upper management with the University Administration at all levels
- Responsible for strategic planning, analysis/forecasting/budgeting, oversight, legal documentation, formal agreements, international and domestic project administration and management
- May be required to manage major international collaborations by partnering with faculty and other staff entities on project writing development, personnel management, facilities/space planning, fiscal aspects of the program including grant proposals and grant administration (in conjunction with departmental administrators)
- Establishes administrative and financial systems for the department
- Directs department staff as needed to ensure completion of major projects and tasks
- May require international travel and may assist in interdepartmental collaborations

- Experience working with minority, under served and vulnerable populations
- Strong interpersonal skills, strong prioritization skills, excellent follow-up, excellent writing skills, excellent attention to detail
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
- Must be comfortable working with the public and with national, state, local and community agencies
- Experience working with diverse partners and subcontractors
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Effective communicator with research staff, participants, and non-academic research partners
- Knowledge of the principles and procedures of translational and intervention research, including but not limited to implementation of randomized controlled trials
Annual Salary Range – $73,945 - $120,165
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Ten (10) years of related experience required
