Job Description:

The Project Director is a working manager position. The Project Director will serve as the project manager for significant projects while also supervising and mentoring the ZAP project management team.

Day to day tasks will vary between project management and personnel management tasks focused on project leadership, overall project success, and individual project success for own projects. Duties include directing/managing other project managers; and managing a project team of multidisciplinary engineers and designers to successfully maintain project budget and schedule while working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven atmosphere.

ZAPs success is largely due to strong team collaboration within a high-energy atmosphere. The candidate filling this position will be expected to be able to work and communicate within multiple teams. The candidate must be self-sufficient, yet be able to take direction when given, as well as eager to learn and driven to succeed.

Typical Job Tasks:

  • Supervise project management team daily operations
  • Development and coaching of direct reports to continuously improve the skill of the department
  • Develop and implement project management operating procedures and policies in collaboration with other discipline leads
  • Assist the discipline director team with project problem solving on various project issues including schedules, budgets, and resource planning
  • Assist the business development team with proposal preparation including scope, schedule, and budget planning
  • Review proposals, scope of work, schedule, and budgets prepared by direct reports
  • Fulfill the requirements a project manager, ensuring overall project success for all stakeholders.
  • Plan Project Tasks Including Proposal Scope, Schedule, and Budget
  • Lead Project Meetings
  • Technical & Commercial Evaluations & Evaluation of Proposals: Equipment, Pipe, Valves, Contractor Bids
  • Identify Opportunities for Improvement Including Lessons Learned
  • Develop and Review Project Schedules
  • Organize Project Information, Action Items, and Task Lists
  • Engineering Support of Construction Efforts
  • Equipment Sizing Calculations
  • Plan, Forecast, and Negotiate for Resources
  • Producing and Reviewing Construction Documents
  • Develop and review Project Cost Estimates
  • Manage Status Reporting
  • Develop and review Contractor Bid Packages
  • Working Knowledge of Relevant Industry Codes, Norms, and Design Practices
  • Site bid / proposal visits
  • Quality Checks/Reviews
  • Other tasks as delegated by supervisor

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to develop and grow direct reports skill and capacity, including leading hiring efforts to support company growth.
  • You understand multidiscipline engineering consulting projects and construction execution.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret complex reports, recognize problems, and define and evaluate solutions.

  • Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide range of industries, clients, contracts, and project-related matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplinary teams; skilled at dealing with complex issues and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • You will have the ability to minimize errors on tasks completed by yourself and project team.
  • ZAP is successful when deadlines are met. Responsible for the overall project result with respect to quality, budget, schedule, and client satisfaction.
  • Executes projects within budgets. Communicates clearly and proactively regarding budgets.

Attendance:

  • Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.
  • Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Ability to travel up to an average of 20%.
  • This is an in-office position, presence in office is required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the Oil and Gas, Mining, Minerals, or Material Handling industries; or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Familiarity with project scheduling software and techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Employment Type: Salary

Salary Range: $150,000 - $180,000
