Position Summary
Responsibilities will include coordination and design of all phases of a variety of transportation projects, including projects for CDOT, City and County of Denver and other Local Public Agencies. Employees in this position complete and oversee a variety of professional engineering assignments in one or more specialized areas of transportation systems and programs involving research, planning, design, technology, materials, construction, traffic safety, traffic operations, and maintenance of highways, bridges, airports, and related technological devices and applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design a variety of roadway and civil projects including, but not limited to: new roadway, roadway expansions and improvements, intersections and other operational improvements, storm sewers, sidewalk ramps, site civil improvements and asset management projects.
- Review and check construction plans, design calculations, and specifications to ensure completeness, accuracy, or conformity to engineering standards or practices.
- Create engineering documents including roadway design plans, typical sections, pavement plans, specifications and design conformance reports.
- Design drainage, erosion, or sedimentation control systems for transportation and site civil projects.
- Coordinate with clients, utility companies, or government agencies to discuss various aspects of the design.
- Contribute to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects.
- Assist in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
- Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed.
- Help to resolve design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
- Work as a team member with other professionals across offices and geographies.
- Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Train and help to develop junior level staff.
- Perform 3D roadway modeling using Bentley Inroads/Open Roads or Autodesk Civil 3D
- Assist Project Managers in a variety of project administrative duties. Such as maintaining records and preparing reports and correspondence related to the work.
Education and/or Experience
- A bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.
- 3 years minimum of local, relevant engineering design experience
- PE preferred
