We are a non-profit, public-private partnership founded in 2016 as one of the Department of Defense (DoD) funded Manufacturing USA Innovation Institutes. Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, AFFOA’s mission is to rekindle the textiles industry by leading a nationwide enterprise for advanced fiber & fabric technology and manufacturing innovation, enabling revolutionary new system capabilities for commercial and defense applications. AFFOA is uniquely positioned to establish and build supply chains to rapidly prototype for DoD and commercial needs while also focusing on preparing and building the workforce of the future that can support these new manufacturing needs. AFFOA partners with its member companies including startups, universities, manufacturers, commercial industry, and defense partners to bring advanced fiber technologies to market.
We are currently seeking a project manager to join the team. They will be responsible to facilitate the planning and execution of technical projects. The project manager will work with diverse engineering, textile product design and workforce development teams to implement a range of prototyping, demonstration, new product development, and contracted research projects to meet our technology, manufacturing and educational objectives. The project manager will interact with members of AFFOA network across the whole ecosystem. AFFOA projects are designed to transition new technologies into product platforms through scaled manufacturing processes. Implement project management processes and provide feedback for continuous improvement to program management. The individual will report to a Senior Program Management team member.
- Assisting with creation of long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones, deliverables and adhering to deadlines. Ensuring that the team is aware of upcoming project events.
- Lead stand-ups, grooming, sprint planning, demos, retrospectives and other team meetings with your agile teams
- Assist with daily project activities to achieve results including solving technical and logistical project challenges, managing resource conflicts, resolving roadblocks, and upholding high performance standards
- Work closely with the Program Manager and the projects technical team leaders to identify, plan and drive deliverables, process improvements.
- Help define and manage task priorities based on high-level project goals and constraints
- Communicating and coordinating with employees at all levels of the organization including senior management, partner organizations, AFFOA members, consultants and vendor resources
- Effectively use project management tools to execute cradle-to-grave project management activities including, but not limited to scheduling, resource allocation, budgets, risk management, and technical deliverables.
- 2+ years project management experience
- Strong attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines
- Willingness to work with all levels of management and manage external project partners
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong presentation skills including presenting project technical issues to a range of audiences
- Candidates must be a US Citizen or Green card holder due to the nature of the work
- Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change
- Knowledge of various project management methodologies (e.g., waterfall, agile, scrum)
- BS in a technical or engineering discipline
- Experience working in an Agile environment
- Hands-on experience in textile and/or fiber industries
- Min. 5 years’ project management experience in leading multiple, concurrent projects within an R&D, manufacturing, and/or government contracting environment
- Experience with government reporting, writing SOWs and proposals.
- Experience coaching and educating project teams to strengthen team members’ capabilities and skill sets.
- Advanced knowledge/experience with Microsoft Professional Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
