Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency. Current enrollment in a Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. Ability to achieve Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission within one year of employment.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Upon completion of training, applicant will be able to demonstrate competencies associated with the following duties: effective performance of general patrol duties (emergency response, medical, traffic, and service); the ability to perform effective investigations; an understanding of crime prevention and community policing in a university environment; the ability to effectively use and maintain law enforcement equipment; and the ability to effectively perform telecommunications duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
Upon completion of training, applicant will be able to perform all essential job functions of a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer including: effecting arrests; preparing investigative and accident reports; exercise independent judgment in search and seizure and arrest situations; operate a police vehicle in all conditions; communicate effectively utilizing the police radio systems; conduct criminal investigations; pursue fleeing suspects; perform rescue operations; utilize various firearms and other use of force tools; conduct foot patrols; conduct surveillance operations; effectively communicate with people in all situations; maintain control when confronted with verbal abuse; administer medical assistance based on level of training; and transport and process detainees.

Ability to complete Basic law Enforcement Training Program and successfully pass state exam within 1 year of hire.
