JOB TITLE: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
REPORTS TO: Medical Director
DEPARTMENT: Clinical
JOB SUMMARY:
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management services to patients of HealthFirst in accordance with professional standards and quality performance. The Psych NP will work in coordination with HealthFirst’s counseling services to provide psychiatric services to adult and youth clients with behavioral health diagnoses.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide psychiatric services to clients in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled hours. The scope of services includes psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat adults, adolescents, and children experiencing symptoms of a behavioral health disorders.
- Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders.
- Design/participate in the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating best and leading practices into treatment interventions.
- Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries.
- Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions.
- Collaborate with counselors, social workers, or other treatment team members to coordinate client care.
- Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and the state’s Nurse Practice Act.
- Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client’s conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
- Teach, counsel, and provide emotional support, as it is an integral part of the provider’s role in providing the continuum of care for HealthFirst’s Clients.
- Assume responsibility for ongoing health maintenance by initiating pro-active health care needs of patients to carry out their prescribed medical regime and utilize resources to maintain an optimal level of health and wellness.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities.
- Maintain patient care and practice in accordance with federal, state, and agency guidelines.
- Establish, implement, and evaluate research and standards of nursing practice to assure quality care.
- Actively participate in all agency and department education, training, and in-services to confirm understanding of new information or changes to established clinical policies and procedures

Requirements:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the State of New Hampshire. Graduate of a master’s degree program in Nursing with a focus in Psychiatric Nursing. X waiver to prescribe SUD medication strongly preferred but not required.

- Display a courteous and supportive manner with staff as well as a competent, confidential, and compassionate manner with patients
- Ability to assist clinical staff in the interpretation of medical charts, monitors, and other pertinent patients’ medical data
- Computer skills and documentation in electronic medical records is necessary
- Collaborate with members of other disciplines, community agencies, school personnel, and hospital staff in meetings the needs of the community
- Act as a consultant, resource, and support for the clinical staff
