GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES

Central Piedmont is currently seeking a Part Time Digital Lab Assistant I on the Central Campus in the Academic Learning Center.


Anticipated hiring date: August 2023

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday

Hours per week: up to 20 hours per week


General Function

The Digital Lab Assistant is responsible for navigation outreach and support services for the Academic Learning Center (ALC) learners. The lab assistant will work in the Academic Learning Center area in which 90% will be spent on computers in training students and assisting staff with digital needs, as well as, assisting with coordination of laboratory activities to support instructional tutoring activities.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assists with laboratory/clinical/ activities.
2. Provide technology trouble-shooting and supporting learners.
3. Collaborate with ALC Volunteer and Distance Learning Committees to provide training and support to technology volunteers.
4. Work with teams to set-up and distribute technology to learners.
5. Schedule and provide training to students and staff on how to operate technology. As appropriate schedule and provide training on using WebEx/ Google Meet/ Zoom for digital literacy and instruction.
6. Assist with NorthStar Digital Literacy instruction if needed. Proctor NorthStar digital literacy assessments.
7. Participate as a member of the ALC team.
8. Assists with monitoring and coaching students in a lab setting; assist students with booking appointments if needed.
9. Assists in preparation of facility for classes, workshops, etc. helps keep work areas are clean and neat; helps distribute lab materials and handouts.
10. Assists in maintaining laboratory equipment; performs simple maintenance, cleans and stores equipment when not in use, and notifies supervisor of any needed repairs.
11. Assists with inventory of materials and supplies, initiates ordering process as needed.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer proficiency, including experience with MS Office programs, email and internet.
  • Ability to work in a variety of locations, in person & virtually.
  • Experience in working with students of diverse and various age groups.
  • Access to reliable computer and internet in virtual setting.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • High School Diploma or GED.


Knowledge. Skills. Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Basic mastery of campus lab software, MS Office, Google Docs, Brightspace, WebEx, Zoom, NorthStar Assessments (can be trained).
  • Excellent listening and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English is a plus.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary for this position is $15.00. Classification type is Classified. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
