Job Description
Job Summary:
Responsible for the purchase & procurement of parts and materials. Direct the actions of others to achieve the required parts and material for each job on time. Manage the inventory levels kept and authorize the purchases within the system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directly support the sourcing category managers in achieving cost reductions along with quality and delivery initiatives. Track cost savings realized by component and project.
- Able to successfully manage the purchasing made by a commodity group of buyers.
- Mentor the buying team.
- Work with Quality dept to Ensure supplier issues are escalated to the commodity managers so the supplier scorecard is kept with regard to price, quality, and on time delivery.
- Solve complex situations and teach others the ability to problem solve through difficult situations.
- Work with your team to provide suppliers a forecast when required and assess supplier on time delivery. Provide estimate of cash spend for purchased goods and services.
- Responsible for following the strategic operating plans to ensure appropriate product availability to meet current and projected market demand.
- Responsible for communicating forecast plans to gain buy-in from sales, supply chain and manufacturing.
- Determine safety stock levels for assigned parts.
- Communicate with sales and product management to obtain validation on forecasts.
- Provide guidance to your team on updates to the master files – item master, item branch plant, etc. and ensure these are kept accurate and up to date.
- Ensure reorder points and min/max levels by SKU number and maintained.
- Identify potential product shortages.
- Work with Engineering to Make recommendations for productivity or method improvements.
- Ensure PO’s are driven to the MRP plan. Make vs Buy matrix as well as evaluating multiple quotes.
- Complete miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Communicate regularly with the supplier to Ensure system lead times are accurately maintained.
- Demonstrate personal leadership; actively participate in or lead problem solving and continuous improvement efforts.
- Assist in the daily activities of the inventory control function in coordinating physical inventory and preparation.
- Lead design roll planning for the supply chain and oversee the proper usage of materials to ensure older material is used and new material arrives on time.
- Understand and support Company philosophies, goals and directions including ISO 9001 policies and procedures.
- Interact professionally with customers in the plant and field.
- Demonstrate flexibility when confronted with high stress / emergency situations, priority changes, or new assignments.
- Lead with integrity.
- Ensure aged inventory is reviewed regularly to minimize impact of write offs. FIFO

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of supply chain challenges and metrics.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a cross functional work environment.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Education and Experience:
- At least 5 years of supervisor or management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a supply chain related field and at least 5-7 years of buying experience or at least 10 years of related experience is required.
- CPIM, CSCP, or CPSM is a plus.
Work Environment:
Office / Manufacturing environment. Employee may be occasionally exposed to moving equipment, mechanical parts in motion, risk of shock and other hazards associated with a manufacturing environment such as overhead cranes, welding, machining, painting etc.
This is an office-based position that requires walking, sitting, standing, bending, driving, reading, seeing, hearing, speaking, concentrating, and communicating.
